Our buddies over at Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com) managed to snag Nintendo of Europe's 2006 line-up. Of note on the list is Yoshi's Island 2, developed by Artoon (of the Blinx series on Xbox).
You can read what Gamasutra thinks of the list here (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10098).
As would be expected, the majority of titles are for the Nintendo DS, with the already-passed releases of Big Brain Academy and Electroplankton on July 7th the last major summer releases for the company until 42 All-Time Classics (aka Clubhouse Games) on September 29th.
This is followed by the Nintendo DS Browser on October 6th and the English Training: Have Fun Improving Your Skills on October 13th. The relevance of this title to the British market is unclear, since in Japan, it is aimed at teaching English as a foreign language, but it has been listed by Nintendo UK, and may be of more interest to the rest of Europe if using the same concept.
I can almost hear thousands of Yoshi's Island fans openly weeping... Oh, and could English Training finally be the cure for the poor English on display at most forums?

I can think of several websites that would benefit from a complimentary copy of English Training.

If the Gamespot forums are any evidence of this, I think not. Despite if English is your first language.

English training. A good concept, but I would much rather have 'Japanese Training'. Providing it works, it could be used for any amount of languages. I never really liked Yoshi's Island. I had kirby Power Paintbrush, and found it was better.

Nintendo has not forsaken you, he is just busy caring for all those ignored by the lesser gods.
Be patient, young one, for our souls will soon be shown the light of the Wii.

Sucks for Europe seeing as neither the Final Fantasy 3 remake nor the Castlevania game are on the list.

I thought there was originally talk of there being a Japanese training game coming to North America. Ah well, I'll have to make due with all the books I'm currently learning from anyways. ;)

Artoon is making Yoshi's Island 2. I haven't cried in 10 years and I think it's time.
Nintendo really needs to stop outsourcing 1st-party projects to 3rd-party developers. Pretty much all of the games that have been developed in this manner in the past 2-3 years have been sub-par. A few exceptions include Mario & Luigi 1/2 and obviously Camelot's work.

PS: Star Fox forums are even worse, check out somethingawful's work on that ;)

I think Yoshi's Island 2 was already announced/on display at E3. Also, I seem to recall various sources (the 1Up Show sticks out in my mind right now) saying it looked hot.

Do you mean 'Hot' like the folks in that above mentioned starfox forum use the word 'hot"?

Yeah, both Metroid Prime games turned out to be terrible.

I think maybe you are thinking of Yoshi Touch and Go. This is a sequel to yoshi island the game for the SNES.

Apart from Starfox Assault (Forget you Namco) most of the outsourced stuff, like Sega's F-Zero has turned out ok. Saying that though, Artoon were reponsible for the generally cruddy Yoshi's Universal Gravitation so I don't know what to think....

Wasn't there already a sequel to Yosh's Island on the N64?

They're most likely early 2007 titles.

But that has no bearing on your point about recent games.

I'm not crazy about Artoon working on Yoshi's Island 2. I really HATED Blinx. However, Artoon is working on Blue Dragon for X360 so maybe they turned a corner and learned how to develop video games. Surely if Sakaguchi & Nintendo trust them, there must be something there...

If you're talking about Mario Party Advance (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59940), then I can see where you're coming from.
I didn't have high hopes for this, but most of the people who managed to play this at E3 said it's pretty good. Maybe there's an internal Nintendo designer working on it, who knows (I could obviously try to find that out but eh).

What's so bad about Yoshi Story? The only even semi negative thing I can think of is that it wasn't as long and convoluted as it's contemporaries. The gameplay is tight, the music actually fits each environment perfectly, And it's easy to complete, but hard to 100%. Hell, I still go back and play it every once in a while.

Wouldn't that make it 2nd party? If not, what exactly is 2nd party? An exclusive developer not owned by the company?

Man, I wish the world was as predictable as defining a company's success on the outsourcing of one game!
