Planetwide Games (http://www.planetwidegames.com/) has entered a multi-year licensing deal with Marvel (http://www.marvel.com/) that allows the official use of Marvel's catalog of characters in Comic Book Creator software.
...“Comic Book Creator,” interactive entertainment software that allows consumers to utilize their own video game screenshots, DVD movies, digital photos or art assets to create authentic-looking comic books and comic strips...The company will also offer Marvel Comics content “Booster Packs” for “Comic Book Creator” and will feature special categories of characters from the Marvel Heroes Universe.
Thanks to Worthplaying (http://www.worthplaying.com/) for the tip. (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=35536&mode=thread&order=0)

It took me about five minutes to realise that this wasn't about the gaming rights to Marvels stable of characters. This "Comic Bok Creator" software has me intrigued. Could be useful for people starting a webcomic perhaps.

If you create a web comic using this tool, is the liscense yours or does it belong to the software company? I know this can be a problem with alot of those 'create your own X' software titles.

Does it even matter? CBC is so limited that it's laughable and pretty much useless.
Unless one has serious problems with drooling and incontinence then learning the basics of Photoshop or Gimp should take maybe an hour or two. Maybe you could get it for your kid as an easy creative output, but even then it's pretty worthless and certainly not worth 30 bucks, even with clip-art of Spider-Man and Doctor Doom.

Oh wow, that's pretty nuts. I've heard CBC isn't that good, as Lodin says, but the fact that Marvel's allowing them to use their characters is pretty huge.
Interesting. I bought this awhile back to see how it faired, and I did not end up liking it much at all. Very limited, few options, little support. I figured they would bring more to it eventually, but I never thought it would be supported by Marvel.

I would rather they spend money on improving the program instead of licensing clip art.

Not really, Marvel will throw their stuff on just about anything it seems. I remember the first PC my family had with Win95 on it came with the Spiderman Animation Studio or something to that effect. It was quite lame and equated to nothing more than placing animated clip art over top a background.

Here is (http://www.hiddencitygames.com/press_releases.php?id=19) the end all be all of Marvel's market whoring. Ugh clout. Yep I'm geek enough to know what it is and yet shun it all at the same time.

It's simple marketing. You can throw Spider-man on anything and he will sell.
