Stop the presses! Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/) is reporting that Valve have re-unveiled none other than Team Fortress 2 at EA's Summer Showcase (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6153984.html).
Team Fortress 2 is back and will be included with Episode Two, and it looks like nothing else on the market. Newell explained that Valve wanted to make this action game distinct, so the graphics look like a Pixar animated movie. To reinforce this, the various character classes in the game look like cartoon caricatures...cont. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6153984.html)
Other Valve news from the conference:
Episode 2 will ship for Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously with the PC and with all of the HL2 back content. Precisely what "HL2 back content" means is up in the air ATM.
A former WETA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weta_Digital) employee is building a "cinematic physics" system for Source. Bridge collapses and other epic scenes ensue.
"New [soft] particle systems, better foliage, and more" for Source as well.
Valve are making a new game called Portal, which will also ship with Ep2. Prey’s stomach-curning portal trickery launched at whim from the "Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device". Stems from Narbicular Drop (http://www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com/narbaculardrop.html).
Watch this space for trailers! (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v2/index.php?area=media)
Thanks to Mike Jones for submitting the HL:EP 2 info at the same time.
www.teamfortress2.com is already slashdotted! :D

OMG OMG! I'm so glad Valve decided to make TF2 very distinctive looking. I dont know what it looks like but im sure they will use Source's very detailed animation system to do cool things with this new art style?
Im sure they saw thr droves of modern warfare art styles for these kind of games and decided they didnt want to be bunched up with them :)

Also, Half Life 2 is nothing more than a straight-forward, cinematic FPS. This is not a damn RPG. What you're missing here, with your pc-fanboyblinditis, is that HL2 is nothing revolutionary as far as gameplay goes. It's not DEEP. But it's immersive, fun, and easy to grasp. Deus Ex:IW sucked royally not because they had a console version, but because the developers were a bunch of cheap, lazy bastards who couldn't be bothered to make a true PC version, instead they made a dumbed down version that worked well on both Xbox and PC and called it a day. They should've done like Ubisoft is doing with Splinter Cell: DA and make separate versions that better suit the hardware they are made for, instead of aiming for the lowest common denominator.
If HL2 sucks on Xbox 360 and PS3 it'll be because Valve sucks not the consoles, because games like Hitman Blood Money and COD2 have proven (at least for the X360, even though i'm pretty sure it'll hold true for the PS3) that PC-to-console ports are not a problem with the newer more powerful consoles.

i'm so happy they decided to make the game look cartoony and stylish. Once again, gameplay trumps graphics.
With more stylized graphics, the game will look good longer. Like Wind Waker will look good far into the future, so will Team Fortress 2. When you try to make a 'real' looking game, it is soon surpassed by another slightly more-looking game. Team Fortress 2 should have a style that lasts for years, much longer than the average attention of regular games.

Although my concern with a multiple release would be that while taking into consideration the people on consoles with controllers, they lower the difficulty to make up for the lack of precision, which in turn makes it too easy for pc gamers.
I would doubt this though. my guess would be an autoaiming system for the console versions, and possibly some subtle differences between the games to make the pc version a little more difficult.
i have so much faith in valve after their last few releases. hell, their entire release history really.

EDIT: I should change that. Games with servers constantly monitored because they are controlled by the publisher can exist without a good amount of cheating. That being said, the oppertunities for cheating on the PC are insanely greater than on a system like 360/Live.

Yes. Welcome to the world of VAC2, and the present tense.
Cheating is still going on with VAC2:
"The main drawback for this approach is that a large number of cheaters are rampaging public servers, unaware that they will be banned at a later date, or even while aware, exploiting the time given to them for destructive behavior. This means that often while public servers appear cheat-free at the beginning of the week, they seem 1.6ish at the end."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter-Strike:_cheating
The odd thing is that wiki tells you way too much about how to cheat.
Varsity
07-14-2006, 01:45 AM

Seems I was wrong. I guess they fixed it. I really never thought I'd see the day where online cheating in CS was a thing of the past.
What annoys me is that there are people out there right now trying to find a way around that. It's like the kids in school that would go to such absurd lengths to cheat. It would just be easier to play and get the skills yourself.
Anyway, I still think the internet suffers from the lowest common denominator syndrome, and it's prevalant in online games. But in that aspect Live(Halo 2) and PC seem to be at the same level.
I apologize for my misinformed post before.
The game that is essentially the parent of that Portal game is Narbacular Drop (http://www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com/narbaculardrop.html), made by 4 DigiPen seniors a year or two ago. The game uses the Hammer map editor so anyone can make maps for it, and that's why (or part of the reason why) those students got jobs at Valve.

Where'd you see that at?

The stats page (http://steampowered.com/status/status.html), of course. It didn't turn out as large as it looked like, but going on the fact that the Ep2 teaser is 50MB we could still be in business.
Edit: it's Friday too, which means weekly update. Definitely going to be seeing something soon.
Holy stuttering christ, YES.
TFC was always pretty damned cartoony anyway, grenade jumps anyone?

Oh god you must get back to Res Evil 4!
It's sooooooooooo goddamn goooooooood!!!
Resident Evil 4 is awesome. Last year I started playing HL2 and then RE4 came out. As soon as I started playing RE4 i forgot about HL2 :D beat RE4 and just haven't got around to playing HL2 again.

I just read a bunch of the posts on that FF site and couldn't stop shaking my head. Those guys are really pissed.
I find it funny that they're angry at the company that created the franchise that their mod is based off of. :)

I dont see where that page shows anything about Valve uploading trailers to their servers. I had already looked there.

Dips in available bandwidth are because the servers are receiving new content.

Has it been confirmed that the PS3 allows kb / mouse support in game? If so, got a link?
Unless the KBD / Mouse support works in all or most games, it isn't worth bringing up as a 'feature'. Dreamcast had keyboard and mouse support in a fair number of FPS games (and Typing of the Dead) but not the majority of games.
And how the hell are you going to mouse / kbd from your sofa?

Seems I was wrong. I guess they fixed it. I really never thought I'd see the day where online cheating in CS was a thing of the past.
What annoys me is that there are people out there right now trying to find a way around that. It's like the kids in school that would go to such absurd lengths to cheat. It would just be easier to play and get the skills yourself.
Anyway, I still think the internet suffers from the lowest common denominator syndrome, and it's prevalant in online games. But in that aspect Live(Halo 2) and PC seem to be at the same level.
I apologize for my misinformed post before.
You haven't..Cheats are still around CS, leaps and bounds..
They have them now that are non-vacable( they modify game files :| )
Then they have others, as long as CS is out, their will be cheaters..
period
Playing 1.5k hours of CSS in the last 18 months I've seen them all just about..You can tell when VAC2 updates as they disappear for a few weeks until they can work around it.. :\

Wow, it's crazy to think that some people may actually own both. Anyway, PC == Online Cheating, so have fun with that.
Yeah, cause nobody ever cheats at halo or halo2... lol.

The same way I do with my pc.

The same way I do with my pc.
I have a wireless kbd and a gyroscopic mouse I use for my media PC. No way I'd play any serious games with it though. The keyboard is too cumbersome to use on my lap for anything other than URL entry IMDB lookups.

VAC2 hasn't been updated since December. I wouldn't believe everything a cheater tells you - they are doing it for attention, remember.

lapdesk. I played doom3 entirely on my projector. It was an experience made much more intense by a 12 foot wide screen and my HT audio setup.
You'll still run across the occassional cheaters in CS or DoD, but you shouldn't be playing on servers without active admins anyways, imho. There are so many quality servers out there with almost continual admin presence it makes it easy to find a good one.

HOLY CRAP. That looks cel-shaded.. That's a CRAZY design. Thank god it doesn't look like how TF2 looked a long time ago. That would be boring

It's not cel-shaded. More like Team Fortress Incredibles.
