Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6153987.html) reports:

On Xbox.com, the product page for Texas Hold 'Em shows a release date of August 23, a date that has been confirmed for GameSpot by a Microsoft rep.

Gamers won't be able to play for money, but that shouldn't bother too many because the game itself is free, making it the second free game for the Xbox 360 after Hexic HD (available gratis on the optional 20GB hard drive). Card sharks will be able to play standard games, tournaments, and various scenarios, as well as create their own poker variants for up to eight players.I'm not into poker, but I'm sure this is big news to a lot of you out there.

You can't bet, or do you mean you can't bet for real money? Poker without betting, even if it is just 'credits' isn't much of a game.

For free? Hell yes. I'm very happy with this.

Hell yea, Hold 'em? And no chance of me losing cash? Where do I sign up?

Now if only the 360 had a beer tap, then we'd be talkin buisness.

Dammit, now I HAVE to get a 360, if not just to whoop Kef at Texas Hold-Em.

(After which we'd play Uno, and he'd probably kill me.)

He's right, though! Not having a 360 makes you an all around nice guy pansy! :)

yeah! we can now sit around the tv and play instead of with real chips!
heh all things aside, it is a nice freebie and gateway to get people addicted to the real thing. Nice n evil. I wonder whos sponsoring it. If no one then expect a real MS casino to come out sometime.

also good for boning up on when the friends aren't around.. alot funner on the couch than on the compy on yahoo..

Hey, it's "POOR all around nice guy pansy", thank you very much.

I barely make enough money to cover rent and bills as is, and my girlfriend doesn't have the money to buy me one like *some* people I know. ;)

*gasp* Are you saying what I think you're saying? That Kef's 360 was bought by his lady friend? That's got to be some sort of no-no right there. :)

Kef got the 360 for services rendered to his Girlfriend hehe.

He must have had to take the Future mother in law to go see Failure to Launch.

If I had a lady friend buy me a 360, I would be forced to spend the next 8 hours with my head between her legs to show my thanks.

I just don't understand how poker without money works... I mean, where is the risk? Why would you fold?

When you take out the money, it's just like any other card game. There's still strategy, and you still don't want to be knocked out.

If it helps, you could just think of the chips as "points". You want as many as possible, and you don't want to lose them all, because then you'd be kicked out.

Hasn't passed the Senate yet. It's just another election year bill that most likely won't make it anywhere.

They should make it so you can bet with achievements, that'd be worth it to some people. (Well at least me).

If you could bet achievement points, I would guarantee 2 things:

1.) It would be the MOST PLAYED game on XBLA.
2.) It would be the #1 cause of broken X360's.

Wow...that's honestly the best idea I've heard all day. Seriously, that would be huge.

Amanda did paid for my 360 originally because I was coming into some money in a couple months and she agreed with me that it'd be cool to get one early. I paid her back a long time gone already.

I hate it when "good" players complain about how you can't predict how a novice is going to play, but back in high school/early college I used to play without money with a friend of mine and it was no fun. He just wasn't taking it seriously and would make stupid bets because he didn't care. In my experience, some risk of loss, even slight, makes it much more fun to play.

I, for one, really like the idea of gambling with achievement points.

I actually honestly have no idea what that means, in part, I'm sure, because I only have a vague idea who Eric Benet is.

This will be reason enough for me to keep the X360. I've been waiting for this for a long time.

Nuh. And, indeed, UH! You're keeping the 360 for this? Even with the likes of Gears of War, Mess Effect, etc. fast approaching, the one thing you're keeping your 360 for is a free Texas Hold 'Em game?

I hate the TXH'em trend, so I have no real opinion on this. Thanks for the free Live Arcade stuff tho

Can't play for money? Good luck finding anyone who actually bothers to do anything but bet all the time like some silly little monkeys. If you don't believe me, go see the play money tables in, for example, Partypoker. If you want to play poker that has any meaning or a possibility to learn, just forget play money now. :(

I like free.

Given the way Microsoft has defined their marketplace points, they could technically allow gambling with those, without running afoul of congress.

That would be pretty cool.

Eric Benet is (or was, I really don't keep that up to date with these things) married to Halle Berry. He is kind of a so-so singer who was supported by her for a while.

So . . . yeah, that's what he was implying.
