Microsoft has started up a new program for their XBox Live Arcade Wednesdays (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14901). Here's what you get: A free pizza from Papa John's.
1000 Microsoft points. Use 'em to download Xbox Live Arcade titles!
Free digital music download to get your favorite eighties tunes.
What do you have to do in return? Just send Microsoft some pics of your party.
Full details are available here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/0712-partyinabox.htm).
Totally cool. Anybody here going to throw one of these?

I would, except I have no friends within three hours of me, I have no digital camera, only one 360 controller, and no Papa Johns.
EDIT: Then again, hey, I could have an XBLA arcade party for myself... I have a webcam :p

Sounds cool, I will see if I can convince a 360 endowed friend to do this
Okay, I'm gonna have to nerd-out and do one of these.
Hey, anybody know what games can be linked via multiple X360's!? I know you could do that with Halo and the original XBox.

can't we just photoshop ourselves into a party and reap all the benefits?

They didn't specify that other people had to be there. Hence, I am a party of one.

I'm so doing this... I just e-mailed xlmail@microsoft.com with the subject of "Arcade Party" and bitched about the absence of simultaneous offline multiplayer in Frogger while also adding that I'd love to have an 80's arcade party.

Yeah.... I'd throw a party except playing Uno multiplayer requires several 360s. Then again if ya'll willing to haul your TVs and 360s to my house... Wait. All that for $5 and a free pizza? Is it really worth the trouble?

It is if you play half an hour of XBLA (for photo ops) and three and a half hours of Halo/Halo 2.

1000 points = $12.50 USD
1 Papa John's pizza = about the same I'm guessing
I'm down...

I really wanna do this, but there's no Papa John's nearby. Maybe in a few weeks when I got Amanda's if the deal is still running...
I sent an email in. This sounds awesome.

I would assume they don't give the points until after you've taken the pictures and you just wouldn't receive them. They must have something about this in the contest rules or somesuch.

Well, if you don't have the points you can't buy the new arcade games at the party... Plus, I didn't see any contest rules.

I'm just giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt and assuming they have some sort of back-up plan for if they don't receive the pics that you're supposed to have to send. Presumably you get more info/rules/whatever when you e-mail them.

I like how they misspell "Papa John's" on the press release. Classy.
Also, WTF? "This offer is only good while supplies last"? Is Microsoft in danger of running out of Microsoft points or digital song downloads? And if Papa John's runs out of pizza they've got some serious business problems.

Of course they put a limit on how many packs they give out. MS and PJ are not in the business of giving stuff away you know. :P
Anyway this is a great idea. I'd love to have an 80s retro gaming party... alas I'm in Australia. This is of no use to me.

Is Live Arcade so profitable that it would make MS astroturf this hard?

I think it is probably less an issue of profitability and more a recognition of the markets that groups like Pop Cap, etc tap into. The ultimate casual gamer... this is traditionally the world of PCs, not consoles. LIVE Arcade is starting to change the consumer landscape in this regard and I know Microsoft definately see it as one of their main weapons in this gen's console wars.

Man...if they had Anthony's Pizza, Jack-in-the-Box, or Pizza Hut, I would sooooo be all over this. :(
Microsoft should hold more promos like this in the future.

Has anyone recieved an email back from MS about this?

Well see, the way this kind of thing works is that a company (like Papa John's Pizza) decides to sponsor an event like this. So they buy the MS points, song downloads... etc. They probably get a discount on the stuff they buy for the promotion, since they're buying bulk, but they do have to pay for it still. You have to remember, MS Points = Money, and that money has to go to the developers who make content for the Marketplace.
