Major Nelson (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/07/13/Oblivion_3A00_-The-Vile-Lair.aspx) reports that the latest Oblivion content has hit XBox Live Marketplace for 150 points ($1.89). The PC versions hasn't hit the Oblivion Downloads (http://www.obliviondownloads.com) site yet.
I need to get a few of these and get back into Oblivion.

Oblivion occupies all my playing time lately as I just picked it up a couple weeks ago. I'm really loving it. I'm far from needing expansions yet, though. :)

You'll never need to buy that expansion... It is just a house mod. You can just pick up one of the dozens and dozens of free community-made house mods.

I'm just curious - and this is in no way a shot at Oblivion - but how many of you guys, like me, played Oblivion for a week or two, and then just didn't touch it again?

why didnt they do this right and add evil quests ..maybe some new dark brotherhood quests ...this mod is kinda useless

If only the characters had better hair. And if my system didn't slow to a crawl in combat with multiple creatures, adding to the difficulty. And if the camera didn't switch to that wierd head-on centered head view that happens whenever you talk to someone. Maybe then I could get back into Oblivion. I think it has a lot going for it, but things like this were too annoying. I've been spoiled by FPS games, I guess...

Oblivion would run at a crawl untill I got a new graphics card. Then it runs perfectly smooth. I had an FX 5950, it was a good card. Just wasn't able to handle the lighting effects.
Tho I do think Oblivion has a case of graphics being too good. Let's face it, most of the people in the game look old, diseased, or just stupid.
On a side note, anyone know of a mod that fixes that? :)

I played about 35-40 hours, finished everything but fighters and mages guild, and a few of the main quests. Took a month off or so, now back at finishing it up. Almost done, alls I have is the last mages guild quest.
But, thats how I play games. I play for a while, then just stop. Its not that I don't want to play anymore, I just move on to a different game. With achievements though, I get back into stuff a little bit better.

I'm right there with you. The achievements remind me of things I wanted to do in these larger games. I just picked Oblivion back up for a while, got through the Arena and some more of the main quests. Probably gonna go back to Hitman now though. I just got frustrated and I played a level shittier than I normally would (the stupid boat level!!!)
Anyway...I really love Oblivion, and it drew me right back in when I started playing again.

Yeah. I played through all the Thief and Mages Guild quests. Saw a friend beat the game, and got tired of it. Sure the world is huge and all, but if every dungeon and ruin I explore is almost identical, it got very slow and repetative. I feel like Morrowind had more quests for some reason, and having to repair your equipment after every fight sucks(I know it doesn't take as much later, but durability always feels like an unneccessary drag to me). I do think the Thief guild quests were alot better than the previous games, they actually had some substance and thought to them. I hope Bethesda doens't hurt the Fallout franchise though.

Close, but not quite. I played for a few weeks, passed the main quest, quit, picked it up again, etc. Amanda's done the same. It really seems like one of those games where we're going to keep going through phases where we play it a ton.

I, too, played for a couple weeks and then got bored. I've been thinking about hopping back in, but I have plenty of time. I won't be trading it in, so whenever I'm not playing anything else, it'll be my go-to game. For some reason, I can't help but buy every new piece of content they release for it. I haven't even seen any of the places, yet.
I just couldn't resist. I'll probably go buy the Vile Lair right now, too.

I have to have as much content as possible, or something. As soon as the style pack came out for PGR3, I went and got it and drove my RUF Spyder. I'll probably never drive most of the cars in there, but oh, well.

I logged about 100 hours in the game total, didn't finish any of the main quest lines except the arena, or the actual quest... don't know if I'll ever finish it. Basically just got pretty far into the mages guild, got some great equipment, the ability to make my own spells and enchantments, then shelved it.
I'll probably at least finish the main quest some day.

I think the reason I stopped playing was that I realised what was going to happen. The quests started feeling the same, the caves were the same, and the character interaction was the same.
I mean yes, the world is big, but it's the same world over and over.
And really, that levelling system is dumb. The game is easier the lower level you are, in many ways. The fact I can beat the game at level 7 isn't good. You can call it 'open-ended' all you want, but when it comes down to it the game doesn't have much substance. There are lots of things you can do, but they all feel the same and feel tacked on.

About 120 hours on my save game. I went back and tried some of the downloadable content, but that stuff takes up all of 30 minutes.

There's a lot of samey stuff going on, but there's quite a bit of content that's better than all that.
Frankly, I don't bother with those annoying random oblivion gates, because they're so damn monotonous. But there's quite a few of the 'side' quests though, that are really fuckin great.
It might help that I don't care about 'levels'. Once i read the bit where I didn't ever have to sleep and level up, I stopped doing that altogether.

No offense, but I've spent more than enough time playing Oblivion. They have to give me something worthwhile to get me back again. These mods just aren't enough.
