Apparntly there are some rumors spreading that Hellgate London's source code has been stolen. For the love of hades, I hope its not true, just a really bad joke or some guy trying to wheedle money with a fake threat of him having the stolen code.

After the delay of Halflife 2 when its code was stolen, I don't want to think how far back Hellgate would be pushed. I want this game now dangit.

(That, and its a game that looks innovative, so the thought of one of the few non sequal games made by a new company getting that badly shafted... ugh.)

I'll wait till Gaming Steve reports on this before I believe it.

To be fair, I don't think the Half-Life 2 code was ever "stolen" since what was leaked out onto the 'net wasn't even a game at all... I suspect that the "leak" was just something Valve threw out there to try come up with an excuse why the game wasn't going to be released on the day they had promised.

Think about it... the "code" that was leaked out was nothing more than an early version of the source engine with a couple of Half-Life 2 test scenes. If you were a hacker and had access to Valve's computer - wouldn't you try to steal something worthwhile?

I will agree with this statement. Mostly due to the fact the game was about a year late already when this was announced.

Right, and for what crime did they arrest that German kid for then? Conspiracies are nice and dandy, but I think it's pretty clear that actual crimes did take place.

Well they had to sacrifice someone as a scapegoat, duh! You and your logic. That "thinking" is what happens when you don't wear a tin foil hat :D.

Straight from PassthePress (http://www.passthepress.com/):
Reliable sources have indicated that the Flagship Studios network has been hacked and the source code for Hellgate: London has been stolen. I contacted the Flagship head cheese Bill Roper directly for comment and he has indicated that while they have heard the same rumors they cannot confirm or deny that any code has been lifted from their servers. The Flagship Studios network went down and has since been brought back online and (hopefully) more secure than before.Grab the full story here (http://www.passthepress.com/?p=557).

If it's not stolen then good. If it is then prepare for a delay or two.

Naw, I was just cracking wise. I do that when I don't have anything meaningful to contribute to a thread. Maybe someone will get a kick out of it.

I kinda have a problem with Roper not knowing if they were hacked for sure or not, I mean he is the man in charge, it seems like he would have the definitive answer. I know I would be very upset if such a thing happend to me, it like something you have worked very hard on being violated... sad stuff there. On the other hand if they are just putting this out there to justify a delay for retooling and/or polishing the final product then just say so the gamers at large can handle that, Quake Wars did just that today I belive. Be honest no need for drama.

-Hope this turns out false for the dev team

Valve's excuses for delayed games is the 9.0-10.0 rating they get on their games.

You must be talking about a different leak. The full leaked version had a huge amount of ingame assets, e.g. you were able to play (in an alpha kinda way) the complete road/helicopter-attack-on-bridge level; enemy models were included which haden't been revealed yet, etc etc

It's been way more than a few test scenes. IMO for that conspiracy theory to be valid, the released content would have been more selectively limited.
