Betheseda sends along word that they have released new screenshots and details on the next pay-to-play Oblivion mod, The Vile Lair.
The latest download for Oblivion for PC and Xbox 360 -- the Vile Lair -- will be out this Thursday. This underwater hideout provides your infamous character with safe haven. Those willingly inflicted (or shall we say graced?) with vampirism will find a means to feed, and if necessary, a means to cure their infliction. Hire evil minions, pray to the dark god Sithis, and a host of other functions await.
You can find full details and screenshots Here (http://obliviondownloads.com/Coming_Soon_DLC5.aspx).

I've already got too many dwellings in Oblivion. I hope they start producing something akin to a p&p module. That I'd pay for. Cynical side says all of that type of work is going into an official expansion, though, not downloadable stuff.

Why don't the pillars go all the way down to the floor on the third screenshot?

For 2 bucks it's not a bad deal. I have been wanting to try vampirism in the game.

I am a little bothered by the curing vampirism thing. I went through that shit mission to cure my vampirism, and would have loved to have an easier means available.
Now in order to get it I would have to pay for this, cheap as it may be.
Lets be straight though, I am not outright offended by this. I am slightly bothered, like an itch, and it is probably only because I played that damn mission.

They are coming out with these official 'mods' quicker than I thought. I'm impressed.
I havn't downloaded any yet, as I still havn't come near to finishing the existing stuff, but it looks like they're getting the pricing right.

Slightly related: Does anyone have an opinion on the best class to use for a "vampire" character? And by "class" I mean a build.
I'm looking to make a vampire but am unsure about how to spec since vampirism buffs strange combinations of attributes like hand to hand, athletism, destruction, etc.

The cynic in me suggests its probably because they had all this stuff ready to go before release and held it back to milk more money out of you by selling it in pieces. But is hard to complain when the game is the size of Oblivion to begin with.

Can vampires fly? I've not had the time to properly commit to Oblivion recently and having even touched the vampire stuff.
Herein I wont be picking this up for a while.

i swear they must've given the job of pay-per-mod to a single intern. the stuff is just pure drivel.

But is hard to complain when the game is the size of Oblivion to begin with. They're doing very well. I imagine after they saw people were really interested in this sort of stuff they put more people on them, and ended up with a couple teams of guys working on staggered expansion projects.
Think about it, if you have 3 teams of 3 guys each (two artists and a level designer/scripter) you could probably easily turn out one of these a month, even if each one took 3 months to make. You could also have one designer that moves from module to module and directs the scripters, and writes the concepts for the upcoming content.
I'd like to hear how they're doing these from a production standpoint, but if they ever released that information I'm sure you'd get people screaming at them for not having enough people on their content to justify the $2, no matter how many it was.

Nope, no flying in the game. Roommate's character was a vampire, and it was somewhat lame after the first 5 minutes. Fast travel wasn't really doable most of the time, as he would load the area, it would be daylight, and he'd immediately die. It was a neat idea but the implementation wasn't that great.

The thought had crossed my mind. I was just trying not to be overly cynical and negative. :)

The "cattle pens" would've easily rocketed this game into Mature rating territory if it wasn't there already.

Finally a shrine to Sithis, took them long enough.
