View Full Version : PSP Mercury Metldown Preview
Pro-G (www.pro-g.co.uk) has got its hands on Mercury Meltdown (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/psp/mercury_meltdown/preview-227.html), the sequel to the insanely difficult PSP original staring a mercury blob.
Ignition Entertainment wants to establish Mercury as a premier PSP franchise. Their PSP launch title has shifted just shy of 500,000 copies, and with the sequel, Mercury Meltdown, they're looking to deliver the kind of finely tuned experience that they weren't able to last time around. The work in progress build certainly has the potential to be a must own PSP title for this autumn.

I have to say, Mercury was one of my favorites when I still had it., and it's nice that they're not changing the base mechanics of the game. If the multiplayer levels are up to par, this could be a big one for PSP owners, methinks.

I keep looking for a marble madness equivelent and have yet to find a good one on a handheld. I remember playing a friend's gamegear (that's the sega handheld, right) and Marble Madness was really a great deal of fun, as I remember it.
That's what I thought mercury would be. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Interesting concept though.

You could always put an NES emulator on a PSP, and then put the NES version of Marble Madness on it. ;)
I agree that a legit version would be pretty sweet, however. Especially if it brought back the two-player race. Some of those courses were NUTS.

I thought I would like Mercury a lot more than I did.
It's not a bad game but I hate having strict time limits in those types of games. I would rather the stage have obstacles that offer a greater challenge rather than making the game harder by forcing me to go as fast as I can to meet the time limit.
Then I could shoot for a best time as my own pace rather than being rushed.

If you read the preview... you'll find out that you'll probably like the new Mercury a bit better if the time limit was the thing you disliked most about the last one.
...levels in Mercury Meltdown can be completed in two ways. You can either rush through, attempting to finish under par (within the time limit), or take your time (if you're having trouble), lose some bonus points, but still complete the level.
