The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display
driver and is unable to continue. The application must close.

After about 10 - 15 minutes of play, varying on the date/time/earth's gravitational pull/position in the universe ... the above error pops up. My entire screen goes black and my video game crashes and I come back to the Nvidia error.

I've searched high (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=202667) and higher (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=The+NVIDIA+OpenGL+driver+lost+connection+with+th e+display+driver+and+is+unable+to+continue.+The+ap plication+must+close.) but I cannot find anything that'll fix the crashing issue. My 9800 GT is working just fine, but I'd rather not use that since I have this more powerful of a card.

Has anyone experienced the same error? I'm desperate for a fix!

Is it application specific or crash when rendering anything?

The first thing that pops into my mind when you're having those kind of issues is that something of yours is bitching because it does not support the native resolution of whatever else you're trying to run/ the hardware you're displaying it on.

edit: Try rendering with vSync enabled and see how that goes.

Already tried that, it crashes :/

There is a lot of hub bub about this specific error for this card model (I've got a GTX 4xx). Lot's of talk about it on the Brink website, all over photoshop and even Steam's forums. I can't recreate the error...it just randomly happens.

This was happening in my old PC as well which had a smaller power supply. It's not an over heating issue because my new PC has a much larger and more ventilated case. I really do believe that Nvidia's OpenGL support is just...fucked.

I had similar issues with my GTX470 but it was linked to me using a PCI-E 2.0 card in a motherboard that only supported PCI-E 1.5. You would think it's suppose to be backwards compatible but try telling that to the sweatshops that churn out this garbage.

edit: The solution to my problem was putting my old GT250 back in. I've yet to use my 470GTX for any consistent amount of time since I purchased it last back friday. By the time I DO get around to putting it in, I'll have to get another on the cheap and SLI them just to feel current lol.

Not a PCI-E issue as both motherboards support 2.0. I haven't tried rolling back the drivers...I guess that is the next step.

Next time I'm buying an ATI .-.
