FiringSquad takes a look at Nintendo's upcoming Wii game console, covering what is currently known about the machine and its games and offering our speculations about its future. You can check out our Countdown to Wii article right here (http://www.firingsquad.com/features/countdown_to_wii/). Here is a snip:

Another big question mark for the Wii are Nintendo’s plans for online multiplayer gameplay. At the moment, no Wii games have been confirmed to have multiplayer game features, something which both Sony and Microsoft had lined up when they launched the online features for the PS2 and Xbox way back in 2002 . While we think Metroid Prime 3 will be a cool single player game, it won’t have any multiplayer gameplay, online or offline, and we think that’s a huge disappointment in this day and age.

Metroid is not a multiplayer series.

The only reason it was added to Metroid Prime 2 was because all the reviewers whined and complained and compared it to Halo.

Now, if Smash Bros. Brawl ends up lacking online multiplayer that will suck.

It would be really nice if Nintendo came up with some type of gamescore thing like xbox, you get points for beating the original nintendo games, doing this that blah blah blah. I have no xbox 360 so I know nothing about how that really works, just guessing, but it could be fun.

I never liked Metroid Prime, so even if there was a online multiplayer, I doubt it would of drawn me to it. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the best bet for an online multiplayer. HAL were talking about 'slowing down' the game, so as to savour each battle. And with the likely hood of it using the Gamecube controller, it could work well.

No kidding. While multiplayer is a lot of fun in Hunters on the DS, I really hope they don't bother with it on the Wii, at least not until they've polished the hell out of the single-player version. I wouldn't play a sidescrolling Metroid game multiplayer, so why does the fact that it's now first-person automatically make it a game that requires multiplayer?

And SSBM had better have online fighting or I'll eat my mousepad.

Frankly, all I want to know right now are the launch date and price. Everything else is secondary.

Nintendo said at E3 2005 that Smash Bros would be online. Does nobody remember?

As for Prime 3 multiplayer, good riddance. It was junk anyway.

STOP! Please just stop right there, you have no credibility after posting something like that. ;)

I actually don't care if SSB has online play or not - personally I don't see the point. I'd much rather play that game in the same room with friends. I think that SSB and other party games will lose a lot of their "fun factor" if you're the only one in the room playing.

Still, I suppose they should make it online just so I don't have to listen to a lot of fanboy bullshit.

The only reason I really want SSBM to have online fighting is because my friends can only make it over every two weeks or so and my wife detests gaming and fun in all its forms. This leaves me with only the intertron and the denizens therein to humiliate myself in front of on a daily bais.

Sigh.
