The Ship is a first person maritime gaming experience set aboard a fleet of 1930s steam liners. Originally a Half Life Mod, The Ship is now being crafted as a full single and multiplayer game in its own right by Edinburgh-based Outerlight. Scheduled for release on Valve's Steam next week, prime time to go hands on with a recent beta. Here is a snip :
What is perhaps most puzzling about The Ship is that it is a stealthy murder-mystery game that wears the trappings of a FPS on its sleeve but also incorporates some sim elements as well. Your inventory is remarkable fleshed out, and just about every container you’ll encounter has some form of item in it that you can pick up and use, everything from weapons (who packs a katana in a steam-trunk?) through to books and clothing. I’ve even pilfered another man’s monocle, a sin so heinous I feel dirty even describing it. The graphics look underwhelming for a Half Life 2 engine game...
I think some mods should just stay mods. Not every one of them is worth paying for.

They never wanted the game to have realistic graphics. The cartoon style is much more unique and fits the game better than ultra realistic style. After all there already are tons of games that try to have totally realistic graphics.

Wow...these boards are so funny. A game comes along that seems to offer some real gameplay innovations...and one of the first comments bitches about the (Stylized) graphics.

This is interesting. Sort of like Hitman, only you have to try hardly because real people are involved. If it attracts alot of players, it could be alot of fun.

It just needs to attract the right type of players. It sounds like a murder mystery thing, and if those are played wrong, they stop being fun.

Yeah, if too many cunts pick it up, the game will cease to be fun. Thankfully I'm buying it to play within a small passworded community :D

If you order it before the 11th of July it is only 15 bucks.
Isn't that the price for four maps in a game now?
I picked it up, sounds interesting for sure.

Last I checked, if you order before the 11th it was $20. If you order after, it is $25.

The original mod was quite fun, although there were a few strange querks in the rules. I seem to remember that while carrying a gun around in the open would get you pounced on, sticking an explosive suitcase to someone and detonating it never raised any eyebrows...

I've got this preloaded, and I'm the last person in the world who gets excited about FPS games. I mean, the last one I played was Pathways Into Darkness.
Graphics smaphics. As long as I can tell what stuff is supposed to be it's cool.

I am looking at steam right now, says "Pre-Purchase Before July 11 and Save 25% ... $14.95... Click for Details"
If you go thru the process it will say 19.95 and -5.00 for pre-order discount, kinda confusing.
However at the end it says "The cost of this offer is 14.95"

I had a TON of fun with this as a hl1 mod back in the day.
Pre-purchased and ready to play, because it is truely unlike anything else in the FPS genre at the moment.
