View Full Version : Weekend Gamer: What are you playing?

Another wonderful weekend has arrived and hopefully for all that will mean gaming goodness. With lots of outside chores to take care of, my gaming will be limited. I want to try to finish up UFO: Aftershock (this game is turning out longer than I thought), some CoH, and I think I will reach into the wayback machine and pull out Darklands for kicks and grins. If I have time I hope to see Superman Returns or Pirates. Anyone see those movies? What will you be doing and playing this weekend?

I'm actually going to be playing Live For Speed S2, I never got into the original version but now I've developed a love for this one, shame I only have the demo but it's one electronically distributed game that I feel like investing in.
Other than that it'll be hopefully Animal Crossing on the DS, and a spot of BF2 if I feel bored. Oh and I need to repair the whammy bar in my guitar.

Well, I just joined a clan in Jedi Academy so I'm gonna try to spend some time everyday on that. I've been toying with the idea of starting a new run through of Xenogears, and will be spending some time playing Furcadia of course.
Also, found my old Earthbound Player's Guide and that has reignited old memories of hippy-stomping.
Everquest 2. After quitting my WoW addiction, I recently had a craving to bash rats so thought, "hey Soap, which MMO bashes rats the best?"

Since I finally beat Paper Mario for Gamecube (the Shadow Queen is a bitch unless you're wearing the right patches), I'm waiting on Resident Evil 4 to come in the mail. And hopefully soon enough I'll have my DS Lite, and I can hopefully veg out to some NSMB or Tetris DS.

I started replaying Planescape: Torment, which I am again reminded of how great it is.
I've also been playing the HL2 mod Combine Destiny, which is incredibly long. The combat and layout is reasonably good, but could have used some physics puzzles and alternative gameplay.

Probably Geometry Wars and GRAW on hard, unless by some piece of magic, Amazon.co.uk manage to get my copy of Oblivion to me by Saturday instead of Monday (no post on Sundays :( ). I might hit it up on next day order actually.

I'm going to play through Half-Life 2 again so I can get Episode One and play it. Might play some Burnout Revenge or Geometry Wars if I need some variety.

Completed Evil Genius AND Riddick in the same week, which is some kind of record for me, usually I'm 2 a year.
Moving on to Project Snowblind, hear it's only about 10 hours so might get that done in a week as well!

I finally got Faselei! for NeoGeo Pocket, so I think I'll dust off that ol' thing.
Warioware: Touched for DS. I still love this game too much to not play.

Brain Age. My 1 doesn't look anything like an 8, but the brain surgeon seems to think so.
I just signed up for Gamefly, so I've got Oblivion and Hitman for the 360.

I guess I will have to pick up the normal cod2 and just buy the map packs.

Absolutely nothing. I'm on vacation next week so maybe games then, but this weekend I'll be away visiting my best friend from college, an old roommate of mine. We'll go out gallavanting F. Scott Fitzgerald-character style: drinking it up, making fools of ourselves, spending copious amounts of cash in the name of fun.

I finished up Call of Cthulhu a couple of weeks ago and haven't been able to get excited about anything lately. Been playing bits and pieces of several games to see if one grabs me and gets me intrigued.
Still waiting for that spark.

Ah, yes, I nearly forgot! EternalGamer picked up Metroid Pinball and Pokemon Saphire, but again, I'm away for the weekend. The games will probably be waiting for me when I return. You guys are awesome!
That also means thecrazyd, Blue, and Djinniman should be playing Advance Wars: DS, if my packages get there on time. :)

I picked up Half-Life 2 for xbox in the bargin bin at Circuit City monday and I'm just about to the point where I gave up on the (hacked) PC version. I'll give beating that a shot.
And I need to find something fun for the DS as I'm travelling to Minnesota and Chicago next week and will be there for over 2 weeks with no other game systems.

Aside from villainy and mayhem in City of Villains, I'll be plowing through Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. I have a BAD habit though of getting to the end of games and never finishing them so I SHOULD just hunker down and beat Aria of Sorrow and New Super Mario Brothers.

What're you up to in Minnesota?
Visiting family mosty, escaping from work, maybe interviewing in Chicago if somebody there wants to hire me. Also have one of my 10 year High School reunions end of July. I'll be in/around the Twin Cities mostly after 2 weeks from now.
I need to add that I plan to play more Dance Dance Revolution this weekend as well... because I want to become impressive at it.

I finally unlocked the Hard difficulty in Ouendan, so I'll probably be giving that a whirl this weekend in between taking my son to see a magic show and hopefully catching some squiddy fun at Pirates of the Carribean.
Otherwise, just the usual Animal Crossing and Trauma Center on the DS. I'm kind of sick of Star Ocean 3 at the moment (I spend almost 40 hours on that stupid medieval planet, get off it for 10 minutes and end up right back on the stupid thing... grr...) so I've been playing some other stuff lately.
Fatal Frame 3 and Deception 3: Dark Delusion on the PS2 have kept me busy the last couple nights (nothing like summertime for a horror game or one filled with gory traps) and I'm debating firing up Dungeon Siege 2 again and putting some serious time in on my new computer that won't slog down when I crank up the graphics. I still want them to patch the menu screen to run at something other than 480x200 though.. yarg.
Phoenix Wright (finally!)
Rome: TW (again)
Rome has become my "nothing interesting has come out in weeks, so I have to play something" game.
Looking forward to Prey next week to relieve the drought.
I'll be starting up with some Titan Quest and I probably wont get any further than that. Breaks between the long hours of hacking and slashing will include forays into Guitar Hero to thrash a bit here and there, and perhaps some Paper Mario as well.
I STILL need to finish RE4. I finally got to the second disk and I probably only have a few hours left to play, but man, I seem to only put the disk in late at night, and I cannot go to sleep after I play that game.
Not gaming related, but I finally picked up my copy of Maddox's "The Alphabet of Manliness" and I have yet to stop laughing while I read it. The man knows how to write some seriously funny stories.

Chromehounds. They seem to be having server issues, which sucks.
Not much time to play games this weekend.
EDIT::
We are currently experiencing some issues with the online component of Chromehounds. We have discovered that there is an artifical limit on the number of players that are able to play online at any one time. SEGA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to assure you that we are working to correct this issue. We have already carried out two rounds of server maintenance and greatly increased the number of players that can play online. At this time we are working with Microsoft to increase this number even further during the scheduled server maintenance on Tuesday 11th July.'
I finally got around to playing Dreamfall: The Longest Journey last weekend, and loved it so much that I am now playing the original The Longest Journey. Both of them have the best storytelling and dialogue I've ever experienced in any game. Emotion, humor, fear... they pack it all in there.
Although if I were feeling cynical I might call them The Longest Cutscene.

It only takes 3 hours to finish that game! It takes longer to wait for the loadscreen to go away in Oblivion! Just beat it already :)
Good call on TLJ, Bone. Awesome game.
I might actually play some Dawn of War this weekend if anyone wants to kick my butt in some online play. I suck at RTS's these days.

Finally finished GTA-sa on my 360 after doing 60% of the game again on my 360 becuase I couldnt stand looking at the ps2 version anymore ;) Like so many I picked up a Ds Lite, the white one. The shop here in Iceland only had 1 left and no black, no worries I like the white better. I wanted the new Mario, but the crappy shop still didnt have it yet. So I picked up Advace Wars on the recommendation of Gamespot. I am charging my Ds Lite now, will try after that.
Also I just got Table Tennis for the 360 and I will try it over the weekend.

DS Lite still owns my gaming time - I'm so happy that I held off getting a DS until the Lite, partly because the design is so much better but just as much because now there's a library of AWESOME games for me to play, many of them cheap. :D
On deck: MP: Hunters, New Super Mario Bros, Castlevania: DOS, Trauma Center, Animal Crossing: WW, Age of Empires DS (which is actually really, REALLY good), Ultimate Spider-Man, and as soon as Gamefly gets it to me, Phoenix Wright.

Prepare for some major weed pulling! Been there.
I've always wondered what my town on the Cube version of Animal Crossing looks like nowadays. It must be about 3 years since I fired that up.
In my mind's eye I see skeletons of neglected animal friends scattered about town, cobwebs and broken windows in all of the houses and my little avatar sitting there on his step looking haggard and unshaven from years of solitary confinement.
Hence my fear of starting the game up and seeing what is going on.

I picked up Polarium today and it's pretty neat...and only 8.96. The Circuit City deal is still going on. I also grabbed the last version of Advance Wars for 8.96, and I think I might sell it on ebay instead of giving it away. Or, I could trade something for it.

Advance Wars DS is great. Why would you want to get rid of it?
I already have a copy, bought it back in January. I also bought 3 new copies last week during the Circuit City 4th of July sale and shipped them to 3 EvAvers AT COST (since we're such a nice community). I bought one more copy today because I wanted to sell it or trade it for something else. It's worth MUCH more than that, but Circuit City's crazy 8.96 deal meant I could go in and rape their shelves. The game wasn't in the bins, still read 34.99, hence the reason I was able to buy their entire stock and give them away to needy people.
It pays to use cheapassgamer.com!
During this sale I was able to get Metroid Pinball, Trace Memory, Polarium, Meteos, Pokemon Saphire, Sigma Star Saga, FF: Dawn of Souls, Tales of Phantasia, Drill Dozer, Mario Golf for 8.96 each. I hope we see more of these deals, because I get all giddy and inflate my game library.

Ah, that makes sense.
$8.96 should be the standard retail price all the time. Imagine how much game sales would skyrocket?
