Oh wow! Those screenshots are hot, hot, hot. I think they look way better than the original preview movie released on Xbox Live. Can't wait for this sucker.
(Another great game in November, though?! ARGH!)

Hmm... In that picture the toy store seems to be named "Child's Play". Do you think that's a reference to PA's efforts?
This game is looking really fun. One of the reasons I ended up buying a 360.

I saw a preview trailer for it where the main guy takes lego heads and has shoved them on about 50 zombies. They're stumbling around with lego heads on. Pretty funny.
Anyone think the main character looks like the bad guy from Final Fantasy: The Spirits within?

Holy shit, if this game has Mega Man armor in it, sign me the fuck up.
Seriously though, it looks like they went back and retextured EVERYTHING in the more recent screenshots. The polish on some of those shots is incredible. I hope it holds out for the final version. Sometimes it just looks pretty good, but there are a few of those shots that are really really nice to look at. I cannot wait for this game. Ain't nothin better than killing zombies all day long.

The only thing I worry about now is framerate. Can they keep it smooth? If so, I think I'll be pretty happy. I can see at least 10 hours of fun in this game and I keep reading about how they put so much into it's replayability (is that a word? it is now!)

I believe the last gamespot preview said there was around 72 hours of gameplay at this point.
I think they said it was 72 hours of simulated time, which works out at about 5 or so in real hours. But there is apparantly a lot of replay value and things you won't see and do in the first time through.

I think he's talking 72 in-game-world hours. You know, think Nintendo seconds.
Probably 8-10 hours.

The mode of play available in the Dead Rising demo will last for a total of 72 in-game hours in the finished version, but other, unlockable gameplay modes will let you hang out in the Willamette Parkview Mall indefinitely.
That's the quote, whether it means 72 hours for that mode by playing through several times or not is the question I have. But yeah I am not sure what it means exactly in real world hours. Also there is whatever the other game modes are that would add to overall replay value.

If the entire game is procedurally generated, which im guessing it is... there is functionally unlimited game play. Basically just play till your bored of it. If there are enough new little suprises on each play through Ill keep playing.
Oh, and i read that game is actually 3 hours per playthrough, at which point your character gets picked up and game over. That 3 hours presents something like 3 days in game, so thats probrably were 72 hours came from.

Ah yeah I remember reading that, so I guess as you said it's 72 hours of "game world" time per playthough, which would last 3 real world hours or so. I wonder how many playthroughs would result in a 100% completion, that would represent your real world gameplay hours.

Judging from all the new shit in the screenshots ( like I hadnt seen the swat team, and they added a bunch of NPC's id never seen before... oh, and the megaman armor ) it looks like they are packing the world with a ton of shit. What completely sold me was in the Xbox live demo where he ran around putting those giant "We are #1" foam finger things on zombies heads... when I saw that I knew this was a game with a sense of humour and a true sandbox game. Im drolling at the opportunity to get at this one.

That sounds about right. The total length of the single-player game is actually going to be based on multiple run throughs (basically, how many it takes until you stop playing mostly unique run throughs). I'm really excited about the idea of being in a fully realized mall and getting to use stuff from every store.
Does anyone know if the developers are trying to incorporate different ways of playing? As in you could go all action, or could try to hide and run the whole time, etc.

Gamespy has a semi preview hands on with the game, and they said:
Of course, we all know that this isn't the case, and it isn't long before the mall is being overrun by the undead horde. Once the game begins in earnest, you'll be given free reign to explore the mall at your leisure, especially if you consider smashing zombies' faces in with various implements of destruction to be a leisurely way to spend a day. While it's easy to just run around killing zombies until you're blue in the face, it's likely to get old fast. Instead, you're better off tracking down your fellow survivors scattered about the mall. They'll give you missions, many of which seem to fall into the "please help me find my wife/husband/baby/pet" category. There are also the Case Files, which will help Frank unravel the mystery behind the zombie epidemic, although it should be noted that we weren't able to dig up any real info.
While there are plenty of missions to keep you busy, this game is, at its heart, all about killing zombies in the goriest manner possible. To that end, you'll be able to pick up just about anything lying around the mall and wield it as a weapon. And when I say anything, I mean anything. Getting near an object will bring up a small icon (mapped to the B button) which indicates that it can be picked up by Frank. We killed zombies with everything from cash registers and sledge hammers to propane tanks and handguns. Oh, and coat hangers, mannequins, planters, boomerangs, and zombie limbs, too. There are a lot more deadly options lying around, but isn't it more fun to find out for yourself?
Even after playing through the 50-minute demo several times, it's still hard to get an idea of what to expect from Dead Rising when it releases next month. We had a blast just running around the mall and killing zombies, but will the story give us a good reason to make our way back to the chopper when it's time to leave? We certainly hope so, but we were also happy to hear that you can unlock an "unlimited time" mode that will allow you to wipe out the zombie horde at your leisure. Either way, it appears that Dead Rising is trying to bring something back to the survival-horror genre that's been missing for far too long: pure, unadulterated fun.
I think gamespy editors are a bunch of asshats, but thats a different story and totally unrelated to this topic.

I did read that there is an unlockable mode that lets you just stay till you get sick, an infinate time mode.
Don't quote me though, I can't tell you if it was an IGN or one of gamespots handson's, but it made me smile. Zombie Killing. There's nothing more fun. (Aside from being the zombie and getting to hunt the squishies, but how often do you get a game that lets you do that? I only know of Resident Evil Outbreak's online mode letting that happen)

Yeah, I'd totally pay $60 for this game (and indeed I will).
I'm also enthused by Gamespot's preview from a few days ago, where they mentioned getting creative with the achievements. Things like getting an award for managing to kill 1000 zombies with your bare hands and others to push you into trying different hings....sort of along the lines of Geometry Wars "survive 60 seconds without attacking".
