I'm sure many of you are as fed up as I am with World War II RTS games. However over the last few days I've been rather enjoying War Front: Turning Point, a PC reatlime strategy game with a twist. The action takes place in an alternate history WW2 and features tactical nukes, force fields and mechs alongside the traditional weapons of the period.

Perhaps the most fun aspect of the version I played was building super weapons. Such weapons don’t come cheap and live at the top end of the research tech-tree. Along the way there are plenty of fun units such as mechs, sonic tanks mobile artillery. At the top end of the tech tree we see the major differences between the powers.

Allied super weapons rely mainly on air power and there’s a selection of air strike options. The first is a regular strike by a B-17. However later you’ll get to use the fruits of Project Aphrodite. This project saw the creation of a stripped out explosive laded B-17 which would be remote controlled into the target. The resultant in game explosion is rather impressive. Even more fun is the nuclear strike, which not only flattens a huge area and deforms the landscape – it also leaves behind a radioactive crater that will damage units crossing it.

I had no clue that this game had sort of a futuristic twist to it. It is definitely worth looking into though.

Sorry the artwork I chose shows off the detail in the units. I'll add some shots later that show the regular zoomed out view. (If I remember) :)
