Funny you mention that. I had an ex who was a health inspector and she always said Taco Bell was the cleanest of all the fast food places so long as the employees followed the proper guidelines. It's Wendy's I was warned never to go to.

Well, it's true that psychology is the main problem here. From the scientific point of view, it's perfectly good food. There was another experiment where they raised algae on human waste, then fed the algae to chickens, then cooked the chickens. Everyone thought it tasted great (in fact, human waste is the most nutritious fertilizer on the planet), until the scientists told them the chickens were raised on algae grown on human waste--at which point people began spitting out the chicken, throwing up, etc. :P Laughable really, because there's nothing wrong with them.

As far as applications go, this seems like a solution for astronauts. That's the only place I can see where meat is such a premium and recycling such a necessity. In fact, I can see this sort of system being used on a mission to mars. And astronauts wouldn't mind eating their own waste to do something historic :P Hell, they already wear diapers ^_^

Apart from that, if we faced nuclear winter, or extreme food shortages, this could be a solution.

The way they turn it into meat is to use what's called "meat glue" which is an enzyme, manufactured by genetic coding of bacteria. If you put a whole bunch of protein in a paste with a proportion of meat glue and then hold the mix at a specific temperature, it will glue them together into a solid mass.

This is how they make chicken McNuggets for instance.

I saw it used by a professional chef during an episode of Iron Chef where he took some fish, blended it, added some meat glue, then extruded it into noodles and cooked it in a warm bath at a specific temp to activate the enzyme, after which he cooked the noodles, and they actually held their shape, despite being 100% meat :P

They also use protein glue to turn soy-protein into tofurkey, and other shapes.

How much healthy food did it take said person to crap out 5 pieces of waste? What was the previous food like? Irrelevant and misconstrued. When you tell a person to eat shit you aren't telling him/her to eat fast food but basically to eat waste.
