GamesIndustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=18102) is reporting that Sega's new Sonic title will be a launch title for the PS3 this November. Also from Sega will be Full Auto 2: Battlelines. Playstation fighting fans won't get their hands on Virtua Fighter 5 till next year though."We've got Sonic the Hedgehog in its original naming convention… It'll be a launch title for the PS3. We have Full Auto 2: Battlelines, that's shipping with the launch of the PS3. Then Virtua Fighter 5 will be in March," Steinberg said.

Nice. I love me some Sonic games. Rumor has it 360 owners will also be getting Full Auto 2.

Bleh... this new Sonic game is giving me bad mojo. Shadow is still there, he still has his gun, and now he has a fucking warthog... They replaced Tails with that douche-bag Silver, and Knuckles is no where to be found (likely replaced by Shadow).

I might rent it.

Virtua Fighter 5 sells me on the PS3. Hell, 3 sold me on importing a DC. I'll grumble about PS3's price and hardware, but in the end, I'll follow the games I love.

Still, I wish it were on the 360 as well. No reason it couldn't be. Then I'd at least have a choice about it.

Well, Sonic is cool. . . but it will also release on the 360. Also, Full Auto sucked balls, and really this is more bad news than good. . . Virtua Fighter, which is cool (but not worth ~$725 after taxes) won't be out until next year.

I hope not. Sony can have that (and sequels) as exlusive games.

Agreed. Full Auto was a total and complete waste. :(

Considering how quickly they announced FA2 after FA1 was released, it's pretty obvious that FA1 was just a (very expensive) public beta-test.

Or FA2 is just one of those "sequel, but really an expansion" games, like sports games, Kotor 2, etc.

I hope to god it doesn't suck. Shadow was cool in the begining, but now he's gone all 'urban'. And Silver? Running out of ideas or what?

My main problem with Shadow, beyond all of the stupid urban shit (and the stupid shoes), is that they were trying to re-do the idea they originally created Knuckles for. Knuckles was supposed to be the bad-ass counterpart to Sonic when SN3/KN came out, and on my young mind it had exactly the intended effect. To this day he is one of my favorite video game characters of all time.

They tried to do that exact same thing with Shadow, but failed miserably. I think Sonic worked better without dialouge... like Gon.

This new Sonic will be awesome. SA1 and SA2 were so awesome...I just see the other games as filler, yet still enjoyable. They are titles that should be released for $20. Sonic Riders is an enjooyable game as well.

If this was an exclusive, I would have to buy a PS3. Luckily it's not. Although VF5 being an exclusive right now pisses me off.

No offense, but they can keep Sonic, at this point.

They've long-since ruined the franchise and I don't see it coming back with this game. They need to pull a "Tomb Raider" and give the franchise to someone completely new and competant, so we can get our Sonic back! The REAL Sonic! The one from Sonic 1 & 2. Hell, my 10-year old nephew doesn't even know who Sonic is and he's a gamer.

Sonic hasn't been relevant since he left 3D.

Sony should give us Crash, if they want to revive dead platformer mascots.

As for Full Auto 2, I'm holding out hope that this game is the game they intended to make (and then some), since Full Auto felt unfinished.

The best Sonic game in years has been Sonic Rush for the DS. It totally invigorated my dying faith in Sonic to deliver fast and fun games. I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, despite the flaws. Yet the games have been getting worse since then, not better. I can't understand why.

Really? I had heard PS3 exclusive. I wouldn't be totally disappointed if 360 go it as well. Thing is, I also heard they're implementing Sony's PS3 controller tilt functions into FA2 (which will probably really just mess up the game more than anything).

1. Do you mean since he left 2D? Cause that makes more sense, IMO.

2. Sega's giving us Sonic, not Sony. It just is appearing on Sony's console (but also on Nintendo's and Microsoft's, so no big deal).

I also enjoyed Sonic Adventure. SA2 was -ok- I guess, it had good elements to it, but I think SA1 was better.

yeah I read it in an interview this morning but now I can't find it.

Basically it was asked if this game was coming to the 360. The response: "We haven't announced a 360 SKU yet"

The interviewer responded, "So it's in development"

The response: Laughs

One way they could use the tilt function is for guided missiles. That way you could still drive your car while using them.

Cars with guided missiles. Sounds like FA2 is right up my alley.

Uh, try the 1st one before you decide. It was total trash but the demo is available online.

Don't know how many of you got to play this at E3 like I did, but I was very happy with it. Although they didn't have a level playable with Shadow and instead only levels with Sonic and Silver (more on that in a sec), I was convinced that the majority of this game was going to be very reminicent of SA1. I really like playing as Silver. The mechanic of hovering along and psycho-kinetically picking up large objects to hurl at guys in front of you (it's all fairly automatic too, which is good because you can concentrate on just looking cool) gives it a very anime-inspired feel. If you liked SA1, then this is definately more enjoyable than Sonic Heroes or Sonic Riders.

<RANT>Now, about Shadow... Like a lot of people I was pissed about the whole "Shadow The Hedgehog" focus, but the big problem is that in Japan they eat it up. Unfortunately for us in America we have a different idea of what makes Sonic "Sonic". I can't speak for the Japanese, but when I think of a Sonic game, I think of an entire game where you play from beginning to end as Sonic.

When SA1 came out, it completely changed that formula, forcing you to break the flow of the game and use other characters that were in no way "Sonic-like". You were no longer running at the speed of sound and generating that rhythm from start to finish. Instead you had to slow the pace down to solve puzzles, play hide-and-seek, even fish... FISHING is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of RUNNING AS FAST AS YOU CAN. The real problem with all the Sonic titles as of SA1 is just that. You now have to play a variety of characters who's gameplay styles are non-condusive to speed.

Again, if you liked SA1 (or even SA2) they you are almost garanteed to enjoy this new title. But IMHO these titles aren't TRUE Sonic games. These are all ambitious spin-offs until a real Sonic game comes out.

It's a hard thing for me to say being a long time Sonic fan, but it's the unfortunate realization that Sonic is first and foremost an iconic Japanese franchise, and America has to deal with what the Japanese like.</RANT>
