If you use an authenticator – and we hope you do – you may soon notice that an authenticator prompt may not appear with every login. We’ve recently updated our authentication system to intelligently track your login locations, and if you’re logging in consistently from the same place, you may not be asked for an authenticator code. This change is being made to make the authenticator process less intrusive when we’re sure the person logging in to your account is you.
We hope to continue improving the authenticator system to ensure the same or greater security, while improving and adding features to make having one a more user friendly experience. If you don’t already have a Battle.net Authenticator attached to your account, don’t wait until it’s too late - http://us.battle.net/en/security/checklist
Lazy will always beat Secure, because Secure is dumb... no wait

I don't see the problem.

The problem lies within it not asking every time. That's the whole reason people bought authenticators. It's 6 digits that take maybe 10 whole seconds to type in and make you 10,000x more secure than the system assuming you're signing in from the same location.

So what's Blizzard's response going to be when my account is hacked by my roommate, who logged into it from my machine or at least the same router?
This is removing a large barrier of protection, and I don't get the rationale.

sure there will always be some aspect they didn't think of, like your roommate, but for the most part, I see their point.

So typing in a password and the authenticator code was too much? Maybe I don't want my wife to log into my account since she can guess my password without my authenticator.

I used my authenticator for about a year before the battery went dead.. Took about a week to get blizz to let me log in. Once i replaced the battery it would give me failed codes over and over.
It should always ask for the code. There should NEVER be a time where it doesnt. Unless you remove it from account or THE EFFING BATTERY DIES!!!!

Battery? It's on a USB port, isn't it? Should self-charge.

negative. There's no port on it at all. Just a button and small screen.

No it's not a USB dongle. It's Token 2 accessory.

All they would need to do is add an option to disable this 'feature' within your b.net account. Problem solved.

They should have something similar to that anyway, where right now you can disable the requirement for authentication. I see that being in their best interest to include the option of "always authenticate when I log in".
