The Ship (http://www.theshiponline.com/), an unique Half-Life 2 mod, can now be preordered from Valve's Steam (http://www.steampowered.com/).
The Ship is a unique multiplayer PC game developed by Outerlight Ltd., created using Valve's Source engine. Set on a series of luxury, art deco cruise ships built by Mr X, this devilish game challenges you to kill or be killed. Once you're on board you're given the name of another passenger whom you must find and secretly murder.Watch out for security unless you want to do some time in jail, take care of yourself and keep looking over your shoulder because somewhere out there is another hunter looking for you!
The concept of the mod is very interesting and the price is low, so this should be a good purchase. Hopefully the kiddies don't immediately ruin the game by running around and shooting at random people.

This sounds intriguing. Isn't there actually a real-world equivalent of this game? I seem to remember there is one, where you join a group of like-minded people as you hunt one person and are being hunted by another (fake guns, of course...)

Yeah, it's like a rather old social game called "Assassin".

The HL version was pretty good, though it lacked polish. A good LAN party game. I will check this one out.

It sounds, really, really cool. I highly recommend reading the basic game concepts. (http://www.theshiponline.com/game-concepts.php)

"If you were wondering, you can't simply kill everyone just in case they are your hunter or quarry... Mr. X takes a dim view of such behaviour, and will fine you for random acts of murder."

It sounds really cool, and its graphically 1000x better than SiN

I played this as a mod back in the HL:1 days. Its definently an interesting concept and with the right people it can be fun. Back then though, there was only like 2 or 3 servers running it and alot of people playing just didnt "get it". Like crazyD says it makes for a fun and unique Lan game.

See now this confuses me. At LAN's we tried playing the original several times and the highest ranking we could ever give it was "almost fun." I thought it was too buggy to actually consider it playable, and now it's being sold? I guess I will have to give a try.

Wow, this is a totally killer concept for a game. Now I really, really want this. Sad thing is, the only reason I clicked on the link was because 'The Ship' sounded like a rediculously horrible name for a game and I wanted to read all the comments of people ripping on such a horrid thing, but I went to the site and I'll be darned (PC police can kiss my ass) if it didn't sound like an amazing game.
Anyone buy this new version?

This game is definately best playing with people you know. Anyone want to exchange Steam names and set up a game when it comes out?

Well, the designers of the game have to set it up so that this naturally won't happen. You can't expect the players to artificially adjust their behavior to fit your poorly-designed game. You have to institute things like the quote says, like Security and other people. Make it so that if you murder someone in the presence of others they will see you and scream and you are arrested and thrown in jail and your game is over. Then people that want chaos will naturally be reduced from the game. I mean, there are people in real life who want to run around and murder everyone but they don't because they know their life is over if they do. And when the few do freak out in real life, they are usually quickly dealt with. Make the game like that.

I played it when it was a hl1 mod, fucking people these days think they should get paid for ANYTHING, it was pretty lousey back then, nobody really "played" the game right people just messed around and it always turned out to be a huge waste of time.

Horse Armor!
I guess Xbox 360 gamers aren't the only ones ready to pay for everything that gets thrown at them.

Man, what assholes they must be. I mean, charging for software? Who the fuck wants to pay for software? It'd would be like paying for food. Who the fuck wants to pay for food?

You're talking to the wrong guy here. I was just pointing out that the first ones to whine about what Bethesda did were the PC gamers who believed mods should be free, like on their beloved platform. Now people are charging for pc mods, something that would never happen.

I'd like to point out there's a huge difference between arguing about a horse armor mod which modifies a small part of a game versus a mod which creates a whole game from scratch to a game that is STANDALONE (note that they licensed the Steam engine and thus The Ship can be played with or without HL2). People just want to whine. Also, the preorder bonus is 25% which is larger than Valve's 10% bonus.

This looks awesome, and I LOVE the style they picked. I was always interested by the real world Assassin game, so this seems like a no-brainer purchase for me.

All you have to do is get a group of friends together and form a game. It's not real hard. I know it's popular on college campuses.

This is definitely worth a buy. I fondly recall playing this and several other great HL mods many times at LAN parties. Now if only they'd get Vampire Slayer, Existance, or Pirates-Vikings-Knights up on the Source.

My friends all have firearms...actually come to think of it, as paranoid as I am, I may not be a good candidate for this game.
