It seems this has been going on forever (see kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5588639/valve-wants-to-know-what-youve-got-installed-on-your-pc) jun 2010 ;-) ) and i never noticed (at least since last year) so take my rant with a grain of salt. I can not remember this from the last Steam Survey i took.
</edit>

We all know the classic Steam Hardware Survey. Well the newest iteration seems to now scan all your Software to go along with the Hardware.

While this isn't mandatory i feel this is getting out of hand. I see no reason for a Gaming Platform to collect this kind of information. Not that i am paranoid, but why not just scan all my Bookmarks, Website history as a next step ? Data Hunger leads to fail!

I sure as hell will not take part in any of these Surveys ever again. And Valve is becoming spookier with everything they do for me.

Steam asks you if you want to participate and it tells you what data it's sending. Greedy companies don't ask, they just hide it in EULAs. So you're basically ranting against the one company doing it right, while others do it behind your back.

Sounds painful... but I don't knock anything til' I try it. Usually...

Does sound like it should be a word, somehow. Like, if we didn't have the word "retch", the word "hunge" would accurately describe audibly the sound made when barfing :P Huuuungggge.

Yeah, it's optional, so no worries. Soon as I came to that part I quit the survey.
