Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War the RTS developed by Relic Entertainment (http://relic.com/) and published by THQ (http://thq.com/) . Based on Games Workshop's (http://www.games-workshop.com/) popular tabletop game. DoW was followed by an expansion pack 'Winter Assault' which introduced the Imperial Guard as a playable race. A second expansion has been announced entitled Dark Crusade (http://www.dow-darkcrusade.com/main.php?region=US).

With its unique Strategic Resource systems and Squad based combat; Dawn of War still clearly has a lot to offer the most experienced of tacticians or if you are a former StarCraft Junkie and just need a Graphics Upgrade, The Gold Edition is super cheap and comes with the Expansion

They nerfed my chaplain AND they still haven't fixed the widescreen bug.

Doesn't stop me from playing though, I love this game.

I just read that my saved games were not playable once install the patch, figures. After all that progress, I had some real good battles with lvl8 and lvl9. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

dude. you are awesome.

go team awesome!

on topic: i loved this, but was too appalling at multi-player, so it annoyed me. and i love the imperial guard, but that was such a cop-out for an expansion, they'd already done most of the work in the main game! (i'm sure i'm oversimplifying, but that's how it felt to me). and now they give us... tau. tau? what the fuck is tau? where are the tyrannids??!!

also: i still don't understand why there isn't a turn-based mod for this game, using the table-top rules. i know GW wouldn't like it, so it'd have to be community-produced - i wonder if GW would actively supress even a community one? hmm.

I'd love to see a turn based mod. That would be incredibly sweet.

This game is probably the best RTS that came out since Warcraft III, and I'm happy they are expanding it a second time. I still need to finish the "evil" aligned campaign in the expansion, but I'm getting to it.

What I really loved about the first one was the epic story following the Blood Ravens. It was just a really really well concieved campaign. The Imperial Guard campaign was reasonably fun, and the activation of the Titan was pretty cool, but it would have been even more neat to see a movie at the end of that thing getting up out of the ground.

that's cool. i used to play TT epic. i never played real 40k... but what i'm saying is: the engine is awesome, and the game looks great. also, 40k is proved to be a great game system (look @the sales figures) - apart from the extortionate price of the playing pieces. i looked at modding it myself, but it didn't look as easy as i'd hoped. however, i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for someone with more experience in the modding world than myself (i have 0, so it wouldn't be hard).

I believe Relic has already announced that they will not ever be adding the tyranids. SOmething about the game engine not being up to task. The Tau are one of the newer armies in the table top version. Pretty cool in my opinion. Anyways the patch looks like its gonna help a bunch gonna try it out when i get home from work.

Big fix in this patch is the removal of the CD Check (apparently).

Also, the bug list fixes is hugely awesome.

If they ever made a really good PC conversion of the tabletop game, complete with all (or many) of the races, then who would be left to buy their ridiculously overpriced pieces?

The people who buy them for the painting, conversion and display aspects?

Miniatures gaming is a hobby, not just a game.

Is not the turn-based loving :(. The new version runs smoother for me than previous and he's done some tweaks to it. I'm about three-four missions in and it brings back fond memories of the old PC game... "WE BRING DEATH!"

"WE BRING DEATH!"

Get out of my way!
I can do anything!
Get out my way, I can do it all...

Man, that song sticks in my head so badly.
