FiringSquad has some hands-on impressions of the upcoming update for Day Of Defeat Source, Valve's WWII multiplayer shooter that will be updated this Wednesday. You can check out the impressions right here (http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=10875).

In short, the Demolition mode fits right in with this game and the two new maps are perfect for DoD fans.

Valve is saying this new update also has some improvements like improved hit location detection and weapon balancing
Fantastic.
I've found that I can shoot the proverbials off a fly with the German rifle, while I have trouble with barn doors with it's Allied counterpart, so this should make some classes far more entertaining.

Look, Ma, no microtransactions!

I hope all of the people paying $15 for a XB360 GRAW map pack are watching this...

Screw the gamers, I want the developers and publishers to watch this and perhaps get the idea that maybe Valve is a company worth emulating.

This is the 5th, and possibly the last post in this thread. Compare this with any thread about GRAW... GRAW is sexy, DoD is not. Rightfully or not, it doesn't matter. Money talks. Ubi is beyond the point of trying to sell their game. Valve, obviously, is not.

How then do you explain the PC patching for GRAW being free, while the XBOX360 patching is not?

The real story is that Microsoft has given Ubisoft a quick and easy way to nickle and dime you to death, a way they do not currently have for the PC version.

The really interesting fact is that more people are probably playing DoD than GRAW nowadays, and that there will still be lots of DoD players a year from now when nobody plays GRAW at all.

How then do you explain the PC patching for GRAW being free, while the XBOX360 patching is not?First, they didn't "patch" GRAW, they've released a 720mb expansion pack wich contains mutliple co-op missions, multiplayer maps, game modes and whatnot. Secondly, GRAW is a standalone game with both single and multi player components while DoD is an old Mod ported to a new engine and finally, I already answered your question god damnit. ;)

The real story is that Microsoft has given Ubisoft a quick and easy way to nickle and dime you to death, a way they do not currently have for the PC version.
Are we arguing GRAW vs. DoD here or GRAW PC vs. GRAW 360? Because if we're still talking about DoD, Steam is exactly to PC what the marketplace is to the 360.

Yeah just like nobody's still playing Halo 2 huh? You keep telling that to yourself... ;) Seriously, I don't care. My name ain't Nostradamus. I'm commenting on what's hapenning now.

GRAW is now equivalent to Halo 2? If that is your average grasp of logic, I'm wasting my time trying to push thought through that block of cement you've got surgically implanted in your head.

Somebody compared Steam to Marketplace. I've been getting new maps for source games for free over steam---how much do your new GRAW and COD2 maps cost via marketplace---seems like the comparison breaks down right there.
