Both have advantages and disadvantages. I don't feel the need to invest in an ACOG when im issues one however.

I gotta say tho, holographic sights are goddamned magical. It's hard to believe they actually exist in this world, so counter-intuitive are they. I just wish they'd cut the metal borders down on most of them a bit more.

What acog are you using and on what weapon?

Oh I sold it a year ago, can't recall model. But it was on an Armalite-15, long-barrel. Probably $400 new. Tritium lit cross-hair, not the light collector style.

Ah. We use the TA31 Rco. They usually go for $1,000 or more a pop in stores.

What's the point in using one of these? "Auto" Aim IRL? (laser)

Well ACOGs provide magnification which has its obvious benefits. Now one of the biggest benefits of the acog we use is you don't have to make adjustments to your sights based upon distance (unlike iron sites and many scopes). I can aim in on a person and based upon how they fit into my scope I can judge distance more accurately as well (another great feature). Then it has a fiber optics that absorb ambient light to illuminate the targeting chevron and tritium for no light scenarios.
Basically having a good sight like an acog enables you to engage faster, more accurately and at longer distances than iron sights for the masses.

I recently saw pictures of Russian special forces using Eotechs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were some Russian ripoff brand.

Well eotechs aren't that expensive and wouldn't be hard to get so wouldn't surprise me.
