Hey EvAv'ers,

Played Brink a little yesterday and wanted to share with you my experience with the game (and hope you'll do the same).

Played the first single mission and played the 4 challenges with a buddy.

Negatives / could be improved:

- Very difficult to setup a real private game. "Private" should mean "Private". When I created a game,
random people were joining my server when I was waiting for my friend to accept my invite.
- Difficult to join another player's game because of random player joining and the too common "Can't authenticate player" error.
- Didn't really like the circular objective thingy. I don't know... it feels weird. Might get used to it eventually.
- Guns feels like pea shooters even with the most powerful guns available at start. Don't like having to empty a full clip at an enemy most of the time. I used to play "hardcore" at Bad Company 2 and am a long time Counter-Strike player.
- Single player didn't feel like a single player experience. More like a skirmish match with a kind of story line.

Positives:

- Awesome graphics in the character creator. (running with every settings maxed @ 1680x1050)
- Character customization is extensive.
- Unified leveling up between game modes.

I'll give the game another go tonight to see if I get the feel of it a bit more.

I'm sure everything will take a lil getting used to. From everything I've been reading so far, the game is great. I'm sure they'll patch things up and balance things a bit too in the coming weeks.

We had to set a password for private. Looks like anyone on your friends list can join a private game, and then anyone on their friends list that joins and so on.

With the guns you have to really factor in range. A gun that can drop a guy in 5 shots at 20 feet prolly won't at 40 feet. I think the pea-shooter thing though is an epidemic among FPS gamers stemming from the flux of 'tactical' shooters. I thought you didn't have enough health in BC2 normal, but my CoD-ified clan guys all insisted on Hardcore for the 'feels like a pea-shooter' reason.

I actually was surprised by how easy people go down in Brink, I was expecting a more classic shooter feel to damage/health. There are several weapons in the game that are two shot kills, and getting the right set of attachments and figuring out your range helps tremendously.

I'm a big fan of the mission wheel personally. Shows primary objectives in gold, secondary objectives in blue, and then class stuff for convenience in grey. You don't have to accept the missions off of it, though it does boost your exp gain. It's really just an easy way of seeing what needs to be done and having where you want to go highlighted on your HUD.

My negatives are mainly around the server browser, as in it's almost entirely useless. You can't set filters, so no picking map or gametype or even dedicated only. Also, it loads everything at once and is incredibly laggy because of it.

I think weapon ranges could use some tweaking, some stuff doesn't feel like it shoots as far as it should. Starting ammo pool on AR's feels way too low, though I figure that's to encourage them to be restricted to soldiers.

There's the usual negatives for any team-based multiplayer game too. When one team plays well and the other team plays like chickens with their heads cut off, it's not so much fun. I was having flashbacks to pubbing BF2142 last night. When a team gels, it's beautiful. When it doesn't, it can be an exercise in frustration. On the plus side, 1 person makes a lot more difference on an 8 man team then they would on a 32 man team. Even with one friend playing, you've got a quarter of the team on the same page. Played well, two guys can turn the tide on an obj in this.

I figure as the community at large adapts to the game, and we start all getting more class upgrades, things will get a little more cohesive.

I quite like Brink, its not perfect but its good fun.
I've got some issues with fps but its to be expected on my rather old computer.

Playing the campain in coop is pretty sweet.
