Again our pals over at Xboxyde.com (http://www.xboxyde.com/news_3113_en.html) have the goods. They've now got a feature up for this Fall's hottest game, and Xbox 360 exclusive, Gears of War. Also of note is the reappearance of Tina Wood and Laura Foy. Now that they're working for Microsoft, we should be seeing them in a lot more of these types of behind the scenes videos. I hope the PS3 sells like goddamn hotcakes, eclipsing the 360 in little time, just to spite Reanimated. Then again, I hope Sony eats a giant Humble Pie in order to make them better (in the hardware/industry principles department), so that could end up hurting us all if people snatch up the machine at a 600 dollar price tag.

But in the end I'll be happy if Reanimated isn't. :)

The DS is a better system than the PSP - no one's arguing that. It's more or less a given. Heck, I play my DS now more than I do any of my other systems combined. But that isn't what I said in the slightest nor the point I was brining up. Handhelds do not in any way equal consoles. Totally seperate entity. And while I don't doubt that Nintendo is going to do all kinds of wonderful in the Japanese market with the Wii, Sony could put out a box of Ritz crackers that were at the same price point as the PS3 and it would still outsell the 360.

Yeah, the shortages are a pain, but I'm willing to give Sony the benefit of the doubt that they will end up selling massive amounts of PS3s on the Playstation brand name alone. No company has dominated the console realm for 3 generations, but we'll see what happens this time. This will be Sony's hardest generation to claim, simply because of the ridiculous price tag. I don't the 360 would have much of a chance if the PS3 was priced 200 bucks lower.

I'm not a guy that sits down and prays every night to various Gods in hopes that a megacorp bites it, so in the end it's hard for me to wrap my brain around the why of the way you act. Your sigs alone belie a lack of insecurity, and it's amusing to watch.

And Sony is relevant due to games. I realize that very little has come out of Sony's camp in that catagory that many (if any) are truly interested in, but they will. It's not rocket science. If Sony even has a third of the type of library they did this past generation - and I'm not talking PS1 titles included, strictly PS2 - then they should be absolutely fine and quite relevant.

Like it or not, Reanimated, Sony will remain relevant (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/relevant) so long as there is a videogame market. They may or may not win the hearts and minds of the buying public the world over with the PS3, but whether they do or not should not negate the fact that gaming is what it is today because of companies like Nintendo and Sony.

You mean until their massive debt finally kills them? Gaming is what it is today because of visionaries like Miyamoto and Nolan Bushnell. Sony is nothing more than an ideas thief whose time is almost up.

I'm all for competition in the market, which is why it's time for sony to be slapped onto it's ass. They've monopolized the market quite long enough, and I for one am glad to see their arrogant dominance come to an end. They've obviously lost the plot, as their focus has shifted from games to their greed lust of media format dominance. The fact that the PS3 is a year late and offers no siginificant visual leap over the competition is proof enough that this underpowered machine was not built with games as the primary focus. Sony spent the money elsewhere and is forcing gamers to spend the money elsewhere. This box should have offered the same level of leap that the Xbox offered over the PS2. Games like Gears of War and Mass Effect prove that it does not. Why? This is the question that GAMERS need to be asking. I am not a movier; I'm a GAMER. I want my entertainment dollar focused on the interactive medium and that is obviously not where sony's focus lies.

Wii is going to own Japan just like the DS does. Did you know that the DS has sold more units in Japan than the PSP has sold WORLDWIDE? It's true (confirmed in the 6/23 1up podcast). The Japanese are not interested in an overpriced PoS sony product that has no good games. They've proven that with the way they've shunned the PSP.

The PS3 has Final Fantasy XIII as an exclusive. Therefore, they will easily win Japan and sell a shitload of consoles elsewhere in the world. And that is not even taking in to account that casual gamers are still saying that they will wait for the PS3 because it will be better, when there is really no reason to think that at all.

I am thinking Sony could get hurt this generation, but to think they are going to get beat by the 360 and Wii is just ignorant at this point. Despite all of the bullshit that is occurring, people will lap up whatever Sony shovels out the door.

People said the same shit about Nintendo before they got their teeth kicked in. No console maker has ever dominated 3 consecutive generations, and that trend isn't going to change. If you think that the mass market can sustain a 600 dollar price point, then you're truly delusional. The BULK of the market doesn't get in until a console hits 200 or less. Sony is FAR away from that mark, and by the time they hit it, this generation will be nearly over. It's a simple matter of economics.

I think it might be competitive when sony hits 400 on the premium pack, but that's also a long way away. I mean look, for sony to catch MS they've got to come out and double the monthly sales of 360 every month for over a year. Not gonna happen. Even if they were the same price, that would be a tall order - especially when you consider Halo 3 rolling out in the 2nd year, which we all know will generate MASSIVE buzz for 360. 2007 is the make or break battleground time, and what does sony have to combat Halo 3 + a price drop? MGS4? Please.

Here's the way I see the Japanese dynamic right now. You've got huge names like Kojima and Infune out there constantly saying that Japanese creators have to look to the US/EU markets to be successful. So if the big 3rd party names are making content suited to the Western markets, that leaves the Japanese searching for the content buit for THEM, and that content will be on Wii. It's the exact same software dynamic we've seen with the PSP and DS. Most of the content on the PSP is suited to the Western markets, while the bulk of software on the DS is suited to Japanese tastes. So what do we see? Despite the fact that the PSP destroys the DS on the graphics front, we see the Japanese flocking to the DS in a huge way. The PSP has been absolutely left behind in Japan. Final Fantasy? Sure, it's big, but one game will not save that console. Let's not forget that Wii is getting it's own set of FF, Tales, and DQ games.

Good point. If the PS3 was $200 cheaper that would be a whole different ball game. I think if the 360 was $200 cheaper that would make a difference too.

Microsoft has deeper pockets, so the price game favors them. Sony has stronger Japanese software developers, more brand loyalty and Blu-Ray on it's side.

I think if/when Sony drops their price, Microsoft will drop theirs by an equal or greater amount. Unless at that time Microsoft is outselling or holding it's own against the PS3 and the Blu-Ray format has stalled.

If that happens Microsoft may not chose to match Sony's price drops. We'll know a lot more around April, May of next year after the all the consoles are sitting on shelves in quantity and the fence sitters will need to decide.
