Following up on the Leaked Press Release (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14171) that Blizzard will be allowing World of Warcraft character transfers in a soon-to-be-released update, you can find this WoW Forum Thread (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=8794123&p=1&tmp=1#post8794123) where Blizzard's Community Team announces that Character Transfers will be a pay service.

Weve noticed some threads asking about the paid character-transfer info currently circulating on the Web. This feature has been in development for some time now, and while we arent ready to launch the service as yet, were planning on releasing details on it in the near future.

Once the details go live, well be able to answer any questions you have about the service. Until then, please post your questions in this thread so we can better gather your feedback.

Thanks!

-Community Team

That sucks. If they let you do it once for free, then I might be tempted to pick WoW back up.

As it stands, all of my friends have moved to a different server than the one we started on, so I have no real interest in going back to the game.

Since stability on about half our US realms has been for shit since the patch, we decided to hold off a bit.

This is great news. I haven't played WoW for some time now because I want to move my high level characters to the same server. Very cool.

Bingo.

That and no one seems happy with the price. Personally, I'd pay the same as a month's subscription tops.

I wonder how much Europe will get stung for this. Or the UK to be more precise. The sad thing is I may do it. My server was going to shit, and I needed a fresh start. My Paladin needs to smite the scourge.

Well if they go the console route, double the price and add more restrictions. But, Blizzard isn't that big on console gaming these days, maybe they missed the "fuck PAL" memo.

Yeah. But thankfully developers and publishers are waking up to the fact that Europe buys a shitload of games too. And we have developed a lot of good games too. It's about time we got shown some love.

This price is cheaper than any other MMO game in the industry.

Well, if I recall correctly, no other game in the past has had character transfers be this cheap, and yet, Blizzard will make a killing off of them. Imagine if only 500,000 people decide to each transfer one character. Maybe that's an inflated number, but still. That's 12.5 mil right there. Plus, chances are pretty good there will be more people doing it than that. They stand to make a metric ass-ton of money off of this, and they are already robbing us blind.

Though, the ability to transfer a character to another account that you own is an interesting prospect.

I'm keeping a close eye on this. For awhile I was restarting when new servers came out. Now, I've settled down on Duskwood to stay. I wouldn't mind transferring one or two of my other, higher level, guys over to this server. Save me from having to level that particular class again, at least partially. (High level for me = 40's at most)

It's the cheapest out there, yet amazingly still too much.

And of course Blizz is gonna make millions off it, watch as it isn't spent to improve Q&A on patches and lag issues.

I vaguely remember some free character transfers in daoc history.

I think putting a price on the transfers is better than arbitrarily limiting the number of transfers per account or per time period. This way, they still impose a limit, those who really need a transfer still get one when they want one, and they make money on top of it.

profit profit profit, lol.

I’d just like them to hurry up on this. I’ll pay whatever they want. $25 seems totally reasonable at this point to save myself the 200+ hours of gameplay that it would take to level up a new shadow priest.

Regarding the charge, any kind of money they're charging is probably to impede people who sell gold and items, rather than an attempt to profit off of it. It'll destroy farmer’s profit margins if they have to spend that kind of money to move their gold laden character to the buyer's server.

Fuck these guys, and fuck their $25 charge. I have nothing else to say on the matter.

I would glady fuck every one of them if it sped up my server transfer!

25$ for moving a character is a good price imo. Who wouldn't pay that amount to move a character to where all your friends are? Just get a job and pay the fee. :)

I am so tired of all the Wow whiners. Don't like the game? Don't like that Blizzard makes money of the game? Or what is it? Why are you even in a thread about Wow discussing it if you don't like it? Gaming is a business, and the money Blizzard makes goes to its owner Viviendi games. They use it to fund new games for you play, so if you are a gamer, stop whining about Wow making money and hope that VG will make some great games in the future with the Wow money.

Real money. Otherwise you could change 400 characters realms for about $50 according to gold farmers.....

I've got a couple of 60s I'd love to get off a god forsaken server. $25 is nothing compared to the upside.

Paying in-game money is one thing but i would never pay real money just to move my characters even if it costed $.25 per transfer.

Only about six million people.

Only about six million people.I hear it's up to 7 million these days! So more people than live in most major cities and a few US states, and over a dozen countries care about WoW. WoW has a greater population than Hong Kong (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/hk.html).

if it is 7mil players and each payed $15 a month that would be $126 billion a year which is quite insane....

Lol... i know what you mean all my characters are on the Lightbringer server which is one of the 5 most unstable in the game they just recently re-did them and they were down 2 days because of it, servers use to crash all the time before they did it now they work better but still major Lag, but if they are getting $126 billion a year im sure they can fix the damn problems.

To be fair, Blizz most likely doesn't see near that much of the income (due to Viv), and I realize that this is without question the largest MMO in history, so some problems are going to crop up. But when the game is (typically) unable to be played after a patch or when a weekend hits, there's a serious issue. It's a great game in some places, but there's so much fat on the fringe that has yet to be trimmed that I just couldn't take it anymore.

But man, even 10% of whatever it is they're pulling in should make fixing this crap easy. Ah well - fool me once, etc.

I hate that blizzard is always nerfing the alliance and making the horde have better racials and stuff (For Example:In 1.11 they reduced the mana cost of almost all the shaman talents).

Savok

Reduced mana, extended duration, buffed other aspects here and there. What was meant to be the Mage patch became the Shaman patch, as if they needed it more then other classes.

I don't know why people are so down on the mage patch, it helped my mage out quite a bit. Now I can stay ice shielded all the time (reduced cooldown by a minute). Things I had a tough time with before are now quite easy, and they improved the entire ice and arcane talent tree (fire tree looks largely the same, though I'm not fire speced).

And making the mana regen +1500% thing a spell is great because now people don't have to go half way up the arcane tree to be able to recover their mana quicker. Nothing beats running out of mana in the middle of a battle, throwing on ice shield and getting it all back.

It seems like people will complain about anything that Blizzard does with this game.
