Codemasters has released a demo for its miniature car racing game Micro Machines v4, giving you the opportunity to race against 3 additional people on three tracks (kitchen, a chicken coop, and on top of several unidentified rooftops), as well as a quick battle singleplayer mode against AI.

You can grab the Micro Machines v4 demo (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=35023) (235mb) over at WorthPlaying.

God, I used to love this game on NES as a kid. Probably not good anymore, though, huh?

What was that game where you raced Monster Trucks or 4x4s or something around a track? You could pick up gas cans and use nitro boosts and whatnot and the trucks were red/yellow/blue/green. The name escapes me, but they need to make another version of that, same angle, same graphics-style.

Edit: and, to be on-topic - the Micro game for the NES was one of my all time favs when I was younger. Being able to race around Cheerios to me was oddly mind-blowing at the time. Would be great if this one rekindled that.

Do they still make Micro Machines? Man, I was a toy whore when I was a child. Micro Machines, G.I. Joes, X-men, Ninja Turtles (of the Teenage Mutant variety), etc.

I got the demo too. I was a fan of re-volt, though I disliked the really harsh controls/physics because it made the game really hard. But I loved the levels and graphics, I still think back to the shiny reflective museum floor being pretty..

This Micro Machines demo I just didn't like. The levels were fun, the graphics were cute(though on the chicken coop level I had an annoying bug with a pile of dirt moving around all over the sceen) but the gameplay was really stupid. Basically it's not as much a race but a series of sprints, when one car falls behind enough(or goes off track) to be off screen, the lead car gets a point, first to 7 points or so wins. So when someone gets their points, all the cars reset and you start from a point where it stopped, it's very abrupt and jarring how quickly and how often it happens.

I really was hoping for re-volt with a smaller scale and more forgiving controls, that isn't what I got from the demo.

Originally an arcade game, but I played the PC port. Purchasing upgardes for your vehicle at the Ironman's Speed Shop was 1/2 the fun.

They actually released a version for the NES, too.

Another good racing game for NES was RC Pro Am. At least, I thought so.

That game was amazing. It's usually the one thing that makes me bust out the NES from time to time.

I love Micro Machines and this demo didn't disappoint, except for the fact that it has a timer on it... lame...
