Chen, Lam and Zhang, who live in New Jersey, came to Michigan two days before their arrests “for the purpose of making unauthorized use of stolen credit card account numbers to purchase merchandise and stored value cards from merchants such as Meijer,” O'Connor wrote.
He said they possessed a magnetic encoder that allowed them to put valid account numbers on the magnetic strip of cards to create fraudulent credit cards. Surveillance cameras showed the suspects at Meijer stores in West Michigan.
Authorities detailed four transactions – three in Grand Rapids, one in Grandville - involving stolen account numbers totaling nearly $1,800.
Police seized two laptop computers, a global-positioning system, a magnetic strip card reader/writer, two flash drives, $22,400 in gift cards, $387 in cash and large bags of Similac Baby Formula.
