Is it just me, or does something seem really "Off" with those screenshots? The units seem to really stand out against the terrain.

Looks like ayss. As in @ss.
I am really surprised how many crazy "next-gen" games still have flat blurry textures for the ground. Even Assassin's Creed has them! The ground in these games looks like they did on my N64! Can't we get some sand and bumps up in here? I can see the f-ing pores in a guy's face, but when he walks around it looks like it is a set from The Brady Bunch.

On second note,
after seeing jesus crysis i can now say the days of imagination hath come. Why? Simply cause not everyone can compete with that game...not even close. Therefore, they'll have to out do them in other ways...either by being more interactively stimulating/different example: Wii. Or by being more high art. Example: ....nada. Or by being more stylized. Example: twilight princess and that japanese psp game. You know the one i'm talking about. The one with the things. Umm...a....<Takes pants and shuffles out the door>

Being in the industry, and being a world artist...i can tell you that yeah...i agree. Our textures for faces are just as big as textures for grounds. That doesn't sound so bad until you realize that a face is 10000th the size of a ground.

It's all about the screenshots and the "look what i can do" factor.
I've always said that if it moves then you can't see the details...oh well. it's a paycheck

I wish games had a texture proportion lock. Make sure all the pixels are the same god damn size. Makes sure that "72 pixels per inch"* character models don't look out of place in the "72 pixels per foot"* game world.

* I made that up.

man, that looks beautiful, surprised i haven't heard of this game till now.

edit: just read the previous posts, all negative, i guess we all have our own tastes, i find most other games these days crappy (when others love them).

anyway, didn't stop the sheep coming out of the woodwork when Diablo 2 with its shitty graphics came out did it.

wasn't there a game back in the late 80's early 90's that also had the same name? although i thought that one was based in space?

I wonder if these and others such as (rumoured) DNF, F.E.A.R. expansions...Halo ports will do against Crysis...both commercially and critically...

No, no it's not.

I'm not going to bother with my usual rant, because it was made clear to me the last time that gamers prefer pretty things to functional things, but I'm wondering why they bother making stuff like this into a game at all. Why not just have AI fight AI and make it a dynamic movie - where you don't know the end because it hasn't happened yet (and is different each time!). That way you could dispose of that troublesome "player" bullshit entirely and just focus on making it look as beautiful as possible.

Yes, there was a shareware Mac game in the 1990's called Maelstrom. Kind of like a free-roaming Asteroids with better graphics and more things to shoot and loot.

I don't understand all the ants-in-your-pants about Crysis. I saw it at E3. No doubt, the graphics were nice. But I can't be bothered by "nice graphics" if they aren't wrapping for good gameplay. I don't have the time anymore to waste on games that are pure eye candy. Does anyone really think Crysis will break any new ground as a shooter?
