GameBrink (http://www.gamebrink.com/) says
Gitaroo-Man Live! rocks. Before there was Ouedan, there was Gitaroo-Man, the labor of developer Inis’s love. Inis loved games, films, and music, and when Gitaroo-Man appeared early on in the PS2’s life; it represented the ultimate culmination of those three elements and became one of the system’s greatest games ever. In fact, it was more than just a PS2 achievement; it was an unforgettable experience that marked one of gaming’s true moments of nirvana.

Is this game coming out in the US, or do I have to import it? Also, the PSP is region free, right?

Ok, so I went and bought the original last year or so after a reprint was issued (so you could actually find it somewhere besides EBay for a bazillion dollars). I generally like music/beat games, but Gitaroo-Man seemed unforgivingly hard. Perhaps I just suck. Anyway, I enjoyed it, and the music was good, but I don't know if I'd call it "one of the system's greatest games ever". Personally, I enjoyed Amplitude & Frequency more.

I thought this was going to be an actual sequel, not a port of the Euro version. :( :( :(
Whatever, at least I don't have to buy a PSP now, because I would have, just for a sequel. That's how good Gitaroo Man is.

I love music games too, play a lot of different ones and import the big ones that don't make it over here, but I just can't agree with how much they're gushing over the original. It had cool music and a decent system, but was just far too short/limited/easy. It definitely needed more levels/songs, and even on hard it doesn't take that long to finish. I like music games like pop'n music where to this day I still can't beat the hardest songs, not music games that I can demolish in a week. Admittedly though, that was a good week.

Not hard enough? I consider Master Mode level 7 (Born To Be Bone) to be one of the hardest stages in controller-based rhythm games ever.

Definitely not hard enough.
Even Band Brothers and Ouendan on the DS have harder max difficulty levels in my mind. Again, it was a very fun game, but it just maxes out too soon.

I think the problem was uneven difficulty levels. On Master Mode, the difficulties were all over the map. Some songs were basically the same difficulty as normal, while level 7 was ultra-hard. On average, yeah, it was probably too easy.
Come to think of it, smoothing out the difficulty was one of the features of this port, I believe.
