From Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=65605):

The winner of the Miss World Series Videogames contest (http://www.thewsvg.com/misswsvg/) will receive $1000, a contract to appear at all WSCG events, and will be featured in a forthcoming game. The only gaming-related entry requirement is that entrants state what their favourite game is."It's not really a videogamer [who'll be crowned]. It's a model," PMS co-founder Amber Dalton told US newspaper The Courier-Journal.
I'm not usually with women when it comes to boycotting beauty pagents, but this time is different. I agree with Dalton, the woman who wins won't be a gamer, she'll be a model who says that her favorite game is Pac-man, and that is crap.

Hello Pot, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Kettle....

While I agree with the argument here, it's hard to swallow coming from a gaming clan that gets tons of publicity simply for being girls. From all accounts, they are not really that skilled. I have no first hand experience with this, but it's been posted by several people who've played with them/seen them play.

This is the kind of shit we get with the increasing popularity of gaming. That and Spike TV game awards, and shitty shows dedicated to reviewing games.

It seems like people pretend to take the hobby seriously, but behind the scenes they just hear Cha-ching, Cha-ching.

Beauty pageants are just glamorous dog shows anyway. We parade our pets for honors and prizes, we parade our beautiful women for the same. Honestly, I think that the most attractive women are the ones who don't try out for pageantry--they know they are beautiful but don't have to place themselves on stage for others to acknowledge that fact.

(*bitter about an ex-girlfriend who won a pageant and then turned into a bitch afterwards, leading to our downfall)

We, PMS and US Frag Dolls, all girl clans, protest the objectification and exploitation of women. So, to protest, we are going to have our own contest. All you other bitch's better stay away from our corner. We already got the nerd market covered!

Oh the irony.

I don't see anything ironic about that... they want the Miss World Series Videogames contest actually be a gamer. They never said they objected to pagents in general.

So they're saying that there aren't any female gamers who are model-quality? Not that I didn't already think it. I guess it's glad they admit it.

No, they're saying that this contest doesn't even care if the women are gamers are not. If they can name one video game off the top of their head, then they pass the gamer qualification. Then it is all a beauty contest from there.

I didn't see anything on the site that contradicts that this event is anything other than a beauty contest. It looks to me like the contest is an exploi... ...sponsership by the WSVG. That is why I think it is odd that they (PMS & Frag Dolls) are protesting it. It is not like the event is being advertised as a girl gamer event. It actually calls for models, not girl gamers to apply.

This is like saying that Miss Universe really cares about World Piece...

I really don't see this as a problem. By the very admission of a female gamer during a recent interview about Female VS Male ability she said they just don't have the skill of men because of sheer volume. They do however have breasts, which are bound to make any officials within reach of the competition forget about there limited gaming experiance.

And it would be Sims or Sonic they mention Girls love Sonic all of them every single one! I think it has some genetic link with a females need to get married and all the blue basard ever did was collect wedding bands :p

To be fair, I think labeling yourself the world series of video games when all it is all PC stuff is pretty misleading as well, so I'm not really surprised

what game were you guys playing? think we could set something like this up again?

personally, if they just called it a pagent, instead of a video game pagent, I think everything would be all right. Tossing that video game in the front though... the winner damn well better be the best player at Halo, or Counter-Strike, or Doom3....

I'm not sure about the "deliberately segregating" part.
It's not like Girl clans avoid everyone else, or only play against other girls and girl clans. There's guy only clans, there's 18 and over clans, etc.etc. So what's the big deal about a girl only clan?

Hell, with the way I've heard some women get treated in video games, it's no wonder they'd rather stick together. Just like I'd love to feel free to use foul language in inappropriate ways, I am in a clan that understands that, and I have no problems with the person who sticks with people who are less likely to be that way. It's just a matter of comfort levels.

I don't understand this attitude I see a lot of guys take when it comes to women games. Stuff like "they don't exist" or "they suck" etc. Are we really so wussified anymore that we can't take any blows to our ego without feeling emasculated? Screw the egos. If you are so afraid of getting pwned by a woman in video games, GET BETTER. Stop whining about it. This isn't a damn "boys club", so knock it off with your sausage party wishes.

I say if there's a beauty pageant with a video gamer title, the model should play some dang video games.

We had specific matches set up in Halo 2. And we got spanked. I think we won 1 match out of 10...and that was OUR game type that we created.

While the majority of the clan might not be good...they have 15 or 20 of top girls in the clan that kick major ass. I know there are a few of them that are close to being ranked in the top 20 in the world.

It's a beauty contest and a stunt. They're one in the same. What's silly is when a ALL GIRL gaming clan stands up and complains that its a stunt. Ya, like sexy girl clans arn't a marketting push or anything. All girl clans like pms and fragdolls or whatever are just nonsense. It's like when the War department dressed up girls in Militiary rolls in WWII to show that women too can serve in the army... and be sexy too.

EYE ROLLING ACTION!
Ouch. that hurt.

correct, I was there at the event in kentucky competing in PGR 3.

and, the pms/frag dolls have a few girls that could have won that beauty event. Hell, the girl that was in the pgr3 contest could have won that event. Too bad my gf would have ripped my head off if I took a pic of her, or got remotely close to her. PMS Venus ftw.

But to be fair I actually talked to a few of the frag and pms girls. Most are really cool and not too serious about gaming. It is more a community thing with them rather than a competition thing. However, they do have competition teams and rec teams.

Well, it's not like we are at war.

Or like we face the biggest nucleur threat in the world with a corrupt and hateful nation (North Korea) now controlling nucleur missiles capable of devestating our nation.

Gamers sure are a bitchy lot. Who gives a damn about this pageant really? I know I won't be thinking about it five minutes from now and most likely never again. I guess a good yawn is the best explanation on how I feel about this particular subject.

Do they also get upset that "Miss Dover Speedway" isn't a NASCAR driver?

Since I don't recognize the validity of a clan based on gender, I do not see a point in a beauty pagent with "enter the name of your favorite game here". I find this amusing.

Amusing because all-girls clans are attacking a beauty pagent with a gaming clause. As already said: Pot/Kettle, Stone/Glass, Paper/Paper.

On the other hand: the idea that a "jock-type" can be considered by conventional definition as much of a gamer as a "geek-type" was virtually unheard of a few years ago.

Let's get a cheer for mainstream.

Ok, I will concede that my judgement of their skill was (poor and probably bias) speculation on my part. That still doesn't change that this is a clan that gets plenty of publicity for being a girl clan (regardless of their skill) complaining about this. I would even accuse them of actively seaking publicity based on the "hot girl gamer" in the past. It's hard for me to take their criticisms seriously.

Edit: and it looks now like the Frag Dolls are complaining about this, too..wtf? They are just shills for Ubisoft. They are hot shills, but they are still just a marketing ploy. I ask you, what's worse;a girl listing pac-man as her favorite game or the Frag Dolls suspiciously listing Ubisoft games as the vast majority of their favorite games?

I'm sorry, but we covered this earlier, and the vast majority of women out there that are openly female on any game are just there to whore attention. I can't count the number of women that i've seen on CS:S who have sprays of themselves...:sigh

With no offense to the girls that are actual players, such as my g/f, most of the really good girl players hide their gender because otherwise it's really hard for them to be taken seriously. Does shit like this pagent contribute to it? Of course. Does a bunch of girl clans going "rah rah rah" in protest help? Fuck no. It's a pagent, they've never been about the most qualified person winning.

For girl gamers out there that are sponsered by a big company, be happy that you get money for doing something you love, and try and buck the stereotype rather than standing for it.

'We covered this'? What the fuck kind of retarded statement is that? The vast majority of women that are openly female are attention whores? Can you even leave your house without being assaulted, or do you just hide in the 'painkeep' with your D and D manuals?

Different thread elsewhere. I didn't feel like typing the whole damn thing out again. Go find it, and stop being a retarded troll. And if you had bothered to read the rest of my post, you would have seen the point anyways. But no, you had to be some asshole that goes off half cocked at everything.

Also, it's possible that it has something to do with playing wow and CSS, the main games that i play, but still, when we get guild recruitment apps with an emo myspace link on them...people tend to get turned down pretty damn fast.

Hell, we even had some dumb broad ninja 2 rings because "she wanted them and she should have them". None of the guys in our guild have ever pulled that shit before. Needless to say, she was shocked when she got kicked....dumb bitch.

I don't see where the Pot/Kettle arguments are coming from. Are you saying that by making an all-girl gaming group they are automatically asking for free publicity? Are you sure it's not just the gaming media that gives them this free publicity rather than them going out and parading for it?

On the case of this pageant, they're complaining because the "girl gamers" don't have to be gamers at all and thus you can be Miss America who's only heard of one game and go in and sweep the competition. They'd rather have girls who actually actively pursuit to play video games be the ones in the pageant. I don't see what's so wrong headed with that sentiment. I bet the Frag Dolls are getting into it because even though they were formed by Ubi they are all real actual girl gamers rather than just empty heads with pretty faces. Imagine if to be a Frag Doll you just had to list your "favorite video game" like in the pageant, it would detract from the idea of girl gamers being equals because you'd get the dipshits in there who are just there to capitalize on the whole thing. That's why they're complaining.

Uhh...it doesn't matter if they're being given the publicity by the media, or not. The Frag Dolls are girls who play videogames, although without the insane skill level of the top ranked videogame players in the world. If they were males, they never would have gotten sponsered by Ubi. Furthermore, it's obvious that this PAGEANT has NOTHING to do with gaming as a whole, just like most pageants have nothing to do with "World peace" or any of the other shit they babble on stage. It's another useless objectification of women, and while i disagree with it on principal, disagreeing with it on the basis that it's "not a gaming pageant" when someone has only gotten publicity because they're girl gamers is kinda fucking absurd.

And as a side note, all you have to do is play the damn videogames to be a frag doll. That's not much past "naming your favorite game". I can't recall the last time they won a tourny. For that matter, has team PMS ever won anything?

And thanks for being a troll, bean...next time before you hit the post button, have something to say.
