According to this (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/15/beyond-good-and-evil-2-rumors-surface/) article over at Joystiq, there may be a sequel in development to the sadly underperforming game Beyond Good and Evil.

According to French gaming site Jeux Expo, Ubisoft's Michel Ancel has begun work on a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil. The original title featured a cliffhanger ending that demanded a second game. However, it was believed that plans for this sequel were cancelled because of poor sales of the first Beyond Good & Evil, despite critical acclaim. Jeux Expo's report claims that the sequel is being developed for all next-gen consoles and will be released next year.
I certainly hope this is true. I really enjoyed the first one.

If this is true, I will forgive God for the Oilers losing last night.

Count me in on this! I loved the first game - bought it on Xbox, PS2 and PC to try and help sales.

What didn't help BG&E, though, was when it was released - right at the start of the Holiday season in the States and amongst scores of other games. It just got lost in the melee.

It was nothing to do with God, it was the Carolina Hurricanes (http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/images/wallpaper/2005-06/06SCChampion_1024.jpg).

Also I was told that another reason BG&E didn't do so well, was because it was released about the same time as Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, which Ubi Soft marketed more heavily. So BG&E got burried under it.

Yep, that is also true. Here's hoping that Ubisoft have learned their lesson here and market and release the sequel more effectively.

Yeah but who made the Carolina Hurricanes? God could have killed Ward or something. ;)

I think that the game could capture a larger customer base with a sequel, much like the Sly Cooper games which have gained popularity with each iteration.

Their mommies and daddies, of course. :)

Ward was sensational and his MVP award was justified.

Yep, I'd go along with that reasoning.

I really hope this isnt a rumor. Beyond Good and Evil 1 was a great game! The only thing they should really change is true widescreen support instead of letterbox screen format.

I know. :)

Hey, did you see Cuba Gooding, Jr. at the game last night. I had no idea he was Caniac.

Nah I didn't see him, unfortunatly I didn't get to catch the whole game, I had to work. For some reason around 9:00 pm the store kinda just died....I wonder why that could be.

Not to mention the fact that the end of BG&E totally set up a sequel (for sure!)

It was really one of those games that, had it been released at any time aside from RIGHT OPPOSITE PRINCE OF PERSIA it may have done well. That was such a killer Christmas rush that year and BG&E was just the most egregious loser of the gaming tsunami.

I really hope this is true, but the rumor has risen before, based on Ancel saying it was the first part of a planned trilogy. However there has never been a really good confirmed statement that it was in production. I'm especially wary as Ancel is working on the new Rayman game at the moment.

Wasn't this rumored three months ago (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/15/beyond-good-and-evil-2-rumors-surface/)? Is this a new rumor, or a rehash of the same old rumor?

EDIT: I just realized that I linked the exact same article as the OP. It's three months old! :D

Yup, it's old but I hadn't seen it posted on here before (and I'm here pretty much every day). Old news doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile :)

I dunno, Making a sequel Doesn't always insure success, Maybe our heroine gets (austin voice) "Machine gun gooblies, baby!", and is made alot more appealing to the common market.

Don't see this happening with Ancel at the helm unless it was part of his vision to begin with.

Well considering that out of 25 players in the current squad, only 7 were Americans, while 12 were Canadian (the rest, varied). Somehow it doesn't sting so bad. ;)

As far as a Beyond Good and Evil sequel goes, this better not be some bad joke. Because now I'm going to spent the next year or so waiting for any bit of news about this title.

Holy fuck! BG&E is one of my most treasured games I've ever played. Everything about it was great. It had just the right amount of sneaking in it, action, had a great story and talented voice actors who really sold their parts. I hope the same cast returns. My faith in this industry would be restored if they made a sequel. Now hopefully everyone raved enough about it to actually make the sequel sell.
