There's a much longer and more detailed account of similar acticle over at Gamespot talking about Immersion's demonstration of their next-gen rumble technology over at GameDaily (http://www.gamedaily.com/features/?id=1039&page=1), the article also talks about some of the Immersion's other undertakings. Immersion's next generation rumble technology is fantastic and I'll get to that in a moment, but I'm the most taken with TouchSense. Unveiled in 2005, TouchSense provides tactile feedback to touch screens that simulates real time button pressing sensations, so when you press the screen, the screen presses back. It's fantastic, especially if you're used to going through self check-ins at airports, as (from my experience) the kiosks aren't very responsive. TouchSense won't make them better per se, but it will give us the satisfaction of knowing that we're not the blame for the machine not working.

This article is much better than the one I submitted earlier in the day.

Im not sure I care... there are some good implications for some of that technology but Im failed to be impressed.

I'm playing MLB 2k6. Rumble is used a lot and effectively. I'll take (said as Scotty on Star Trek) "more Power Captain!".

IMO, quality rumble helps with immersion. Great name for that company.

The only thing that it truly rumbles are the rocks inside the skulls of mere simpletons. Oho.

Its like when you used to pick up your telephone handset and press (or spin) the numbers to dial, there was never an audible tone on the handset to let you know the button had been pushed. Very Annoying (at the time anyway)

People love tactile response to something they have done. Nice work Immersion.

The DS does this now though right? you get response from Touchscreen clicks?

+1 to multi billion dollar patent applications.

I still tell people that the PS3 wont have rumble and they think I am off my rocker. So many people just tell me Sony owns rumble no one else and the discussion stops there.

Step 1. Register a tech patent that the entire planet will make use off in the next 5 to 10 years.

Step 2. Profit!
