Holy shit! That is awesome... The forest-clearing gun emplacement section reminded me of Predator, which is not a bad thing.

No, not pre-rendered. It's 100% gameplay footage and it has me frothing at the mouth in anticipation (for a 360 version  ).

Holy....crap. That is freaking amazing. That's the first time that fire has ever really looked like fire...and the weapon switch system is an interesting take on things. I'm only about 4 minutes in, but daaaaamn does it look sexy.

Still though, i shudder to think what kind of computer they're running that on...

Ok, so i'm at work and can't listen to his commentary...but did anyone hear anything about bullets traveling through walls/having some sort of penetration ability? i've been dying for a game to do this for ages, i'm so tired of impenetrable wood tables and flimsy walls stopping 50 cal machinegun rounds.

This footage looks more than awesome, it looks amazing, unbelievable.
If MS wants to sell *ME* Vista they better make their goddamn ass sure this game will be PC exclusive, like, forever.

Are they serious about Games for Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/games/default.mspx) or just fucking around with  Halo 2 port and Shadowrun CS clone?

But I get your point. Nothing says multiplatform like EA and Ubisoft.

I remember that Black & White 2 was in development for consoles as well. As for Generals, it was an RTS, so that explains its PC exclusiveness.

I, like you, lament the whole cross platform thing. The vast majority of the greatest games ever were developed for one platform. Alas, those days seem to be over.

Cross platform games can be good, even though Ubisoft is starting to get away from those. Just look at Ghost Recon AW, 4 systems, and I think 3 games. A super tactical PC game, an Action Xbox game, and a crappy PS2 game.

Most games can also be on every platform, as if you can make a PS2 game, it can work on a Xbox with a bit of tweaking.

I don't know....it sort of makes sense to me. Microsoft has their hands in both pies, so there are going to be alot of games published for both. I think we'll see alot more vista/360 games than ps3/360 games.

As for the footage, it's impressive no doubt. I have to second an earlier question someone else asked: what in the hell computer is this running on? I heard something crazy like 4 video cards. Does anyone have info on that? I don't know if 2 cards in sli can even do what they're doing.

That UI looks awkward. It looks like the monstrosity from DXIW, but more spaced out and complex. That said, being able to 'augment' yourself like in DX (down a one-way path) should add a layer of depth to the game. I didn't like the guns, hopefully they will tweak them extensively.

Don't know about the PC version, but Xbox360 G.R.A.W. has sniper rifles that can shoot through almost anything.

It will run it just fine. You just may need to turn the graphics down a little and install windshield wipers to hold off the effects of your crying. Hell, I bet my 6800 will run it pretty well.

Man, I'm going to get so much shit for this. But hopefully some can see my point...

This Crysis stuff does the complete opposite for me. I find anything that tries very hard for complete realism like this to be very unexciting and very uninspiring. I think they could have spent this whole time creating a new world of their own or something we don't see in our everyday world.

I guess I just dont get off on playing games that look like things I see here much less look almost like exact locations. I think this is why games in general attract me in the first place. I enjoy playing in areas I've never seen or imagined before and even play as characters that obviously live in these worlds. I know i'd hate to have been on the artside of things for this project, when most of your concept work is based on photographs. Which is why racing, war sims and sports games do absolutely nothing for me for the most part. This stuff feels too static and stagnant for me.

I'd personally would like to see less and less games like this and more games built around imagination and amazing concepts. Sure, I love detail as much as the next guy. But I don't want to play in a photograph, I want to play in creativity. That doesnt mean all their hardwork is invalid. It just doesn't look as beautiful or as awe-inspiring as say some of the stuff I've seen in older games even some other recent ones that have worked to show off something more.

Please don't hit me.

I speak mainly of the art and look of the engine. What I basically mean is I want more personal style from a company/group than anything else.

You are correct. Crysis will scale down to SM 2.0. Crytek has said that having a SM 2.0 card will not stop you from playing the game. Then again, not having a card that has SM 4.0 nor Geometric Shaders won't either. Waka! Waka!

I agree almost completely with you but still love to see environments in Crysis. Why? Well, it's still a fairly exotic location--I've certainly never been anywhere remotely like it. When I play games I always want to see what's over the next hill, what's down that path. When you get realistic outdoor areas, which have gotten exponentially better in the last three years, it gets that much more rewarding.

Still, I found myself enjoying Oblivion less than Morrowind, and certainly much less than I thought I would. Yes, the world is more fully realized, quests are more interesting, all that good stuff. But I wasn't compelled by the unique world I saw in Morrowind. Morrowind is one of my favorite games because it let me explore such a huge area. After playing Oblivion I realize that the style of the game is just as important to the feeling of freedom as the space. Since I didn't want to explore the wilds (as much), it felt less open. And that's the direct result of a world that looks too similar across its breadth and in relation to the real world.

So yeah, I anticipate Crysis for its outdoor environments. I can still get a thrill in Oblivion from walking onto a mountaintop. But it's so much sweeter if it shows me something I truly have never seen before when I get there.

I can see and understand the points of people who don't get excited over real life like stuff being recreated... but it's still a damn sight better than all those WWII FPS games.... damn! Those things are getting f'ing annoying.

Interesting points all. I can see where the people against the photorealism are coming from. At this point Crysis looks like a really interesting tech demo. I sincerely hope they come up with some gameplay or presentation elements (aside from wicked graphics, volumetric lighting, destructible environments) that will make it different than every other FPS out there. The hand-to-hand bit and "choosing between strength and speed" seem pretty lame to me, but that's but one man's take. They're really pushing the tech angle of the game right now. I hope they give us more than just pretty graphics, though.

It's alot more than pretty graphics! I cannot believe you missed the new gameplay scenarios that this tech will make available. They already proved themselves with Farcry and during this tech-demo they showed some fine details like shooting the gascanister on the truck, and imploding the house and killing people inside.

The "everything can be destroyed" is REALLY incredible and creates BOTH immersion and fantastic gameplay options. The freezeray looks great and I really like the GUI. It's like a dynamic HL2 GUI = very cool.

It will be something to throw grenades and battle it out with this kind of destruction going on.

If it can play Oblivion on max settings (which it can) then it can play this on fairly decent settings.
