On Major Nelson's Podcast (http://www.majornelson.com) today the XBox Live Portfolio Manager talked about the complete lack of pacing in XBox Live Arcade. He mentioned that "we should be seeing the floodgates opened" soon.

He also talked about Street Fighter and the delays in regards to that. Mostly it comes down to Capcom having issues with the lag for the online version. It sounds like it may still be a few weeks out.

He also mentioned that we should see Poker sometime this summer, and most of the delays are due to a sponsorship issue. I had heard that Golden Palace.com was the original sponsor but there were some legal issues with that.

Last but not least Major played a bit of Lumines live on the show. It sounds like this game is really close to release as well.

Flood gates to open soon. Check.

Next week's news: "No one cares about xbox live. We've underpromised and overdelivered! Now everyone fuck off and buy our console".
:D
-Im still waiting for the Chrome-hounds demo.

Better they work out the lag now then release what would effectively be a meaningless piece of shovelware.

Been waiting for Texas Hold 'em for awhile now. I've never played Lumines, but it looks like my kind of game.

I hope they can work out the lag issues for SF.

What the heck with poker being so far after launch of Live Arcade? That is something that should have been in the original Xbox version of Live Arcade. It's poker!

Exactly, so you can pump it full of advertising. That's what's taking all the time.

They wanted to make it free. I guess Golden Palace was going to be the sponsor. Problem is it's a gambling website. There's some legal issues I guess with that, etc. Long story short I guess they dumped GP and now they have another one lined up. But they need to work them into the build and sort out legal issues.

Screw Street Fighter... where the hell is Mortal Kombat 3? Everyone knows the MK games were superior! ;)

Meh... last I heard, you have Madonna streaming in the background when you play. Until I hear that's optional, I'll stick with Meteos on my DS Lite. :)

Here's an idea:

Make it free
People can gamble MS points
MS takes a cut of the pot
JUST like a casino does :D

I'm sure that wouldn't spur some legal consequences

MK3
*Block*
*Run*
*HK HK LK LK HP <- LP+HP*
Repeat

SFII
*Block*
*Down, Down-Towards, Towards + Fierce Punch*
*Down, Down-Away, Away + Fierce Kick*
*Repeat*

One of these is superior that the other?! ;)

I find it amazing that in 6 months since it's release there is only 21 XBLA games and most of them are flash/java games.

I wanted to buy an arcade game over the weekend cause I was bored and had some extra points, but there was nothing available. They completely need better pacing on this since the way it is now is horrible.

16:9! DAMN IT 16:9! That is the only feature that has yet implemented in any 2d Fighter. is making it widescreen going to affect gameplay? If it is make it a mode within a rehash game

Yes, the Madonna is optional... AFAIK its not even included with the game.

It was just an example showing off that you can stream ANY video in the background while while you play.

Seriously. I keep hearing about how way too many people are making XBLA games now. It's so overcrowded, etc. etc.. Well, maybe one of those people could actually release a friggin' game already.

There's this thing...it's called Time. Apparently developers need that to make games.

Well, it is called Xbox Arcade for a reason. It's not supposed to be a replacement for full feature games. Especially not with a 50MB limitation.

Games get delayed, even small ones. And I'd much rather that the games are done right, than just rushed and crap.

Like everything else, it's a matter of preference.

The number of games or the type available is not the issue, it's that there's nothing there you want.

Time + Development = Game
(Time / 2) + Development = Crappy game
(Time / 4) + Development = Tiki Island Volcano Simulator :D :p

I totally forgot about the 50MB limitation, no doubts something a dashboard update can alter.

The guy on Major nelson said they are keeping it there basically so people can downlaod the games with just a memory card. Maybe that will change once the 256mb memory cards are out.

Floodgates? Hell, let's just get something...anything...new in Live Arcade. It's been months of themes/picture packs/demos/video and NO NEW ARCADE material. How about just a trickle of something?

I have enjoyed the additional content for my titles, however. The CoD2 maps are pretty cool, and the GRAW content looks to be promising for later this month or early next.

Gosh, I hope this is true. I'd love to get some new XBLA titles for me to chill to while the summer is still on, since I'm sure time will shrink immensely in the new school year.

Yeah, I was pretty excited when I checked XBLA for new games, and saw Street Fighter! Then saw it was only themes. I thought I had hit some "midnight release" or something, because I knew it wasn't out yet. I was bummed.

Yep, couldn't agree more with you (RANT ALERT... STOP READING NOW) and less with the CEO of Lucas Arts, who pounded Electronic Arts for the Superman missing the opening of the Superman movie.

Software is different than movies and whether it's Superman or Street Fighter II, you can't just "ship it".

MLB 2k6 had horrible bugs this year when it shipped. I've not had any, but you can see lot's of places it just wasn't finished yet. So, I looked at the release date and sure enough it was April 11th... Just after the start of the baseball season...

The CEO of Lucas Arts would be proud. Yeah! They shipped. Except that it was filled with bugs and really probably shouldn't have been shipped for a couple more months.

I'm glad they are delaying Street Fighter to get it right. It would probably get hammered if it shipped laggy.

I also, listened to a Podcast talking about how some of these Movie guys coming into game publishing, just don't understand the complexities of bugs, and creating new game engines etc.

Camera's don't typically break. You deal with bad weather and cranky actors, but that's nothing compared to creating a new game engine without bugs.... If it's Madden and it's incremental functionality, that's a bit easier, but many games are re-inventing a lot of technology and it's not that easy.

Anyway, done with my rant about the difficulties of game design. Carry on with the Street Fighter and XBL Arcade discussion... :)

It almost seems as if that leaked XBLA "release schedule" from two weeks ago is real. It is right so far...

Edit: I just noticed that that says they are adding Cat and Mouse to PGR3. If that is true I would buy it in a second. I was one of those people that always did it with what we had in PGR2. Actual support for it? SWEET.

When the video of the game (SF2 HF) was released a few weeks ago I started playing some SFII HF on my PC using the X360 USB controller. I mentioned then that the DPAD POV Hat Switch was shitty for playing Street Fighter because of the huge travel it has inside the housing recess.

I have been playing for the last few weeks and have improved some but as I said then I hope that *** releases an Arcade specifc X360 controller just for the live arcade games. It should sell for the same price as regular Xbox controllers and because of its USB functionality it would plug direct in for PC users and Xbox360s users alike.

Have you tried the DoA arcade stick? I don't have one myself, but it might be better for ye olde arcade style games. I think that it might be wireless only though.

Kama I have looked into tonnes of arcade fighter sticks over the years. MVC1 and 2 started my last Arcade Fighter control redux the first one was way back to the arcade release of Mortal Kombat.

It always used to shit me to Tears the MK had a Game Specific Control Map Layout and a Block and Run button in the later days. The 2 different layouts really changed gameplay and the jump from Arcade to SNES and Megadrive respectivly in the day sort of mushed both control methods into a standard controller layout. I never like Dpad Arcade fighting it made some moves a few Milli seconds harder / Easier and I never really liked how Control Pad VS Arcade Fighter Stick was akin to Mouse + KB VS Controller. One better one worse...

http://images.webmagic.com/klov.com/images/S/cStreet_Fighter_II_-_Hyper_Fighting.jpg http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/1863/mk31aq.th.jpg (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mk31aq.jpg)

I generally use one of these for fighters. There is heap of great controller hacking advice on Shryouken and Arcadecontrols.com

What I meant in my post was not everyone can be bothered to collect each and every controller and input device that was released and then screw around with building/locating adaptors for all systems. I try and get as many as possible so that I can test most games with most of the available control methods to see how they work. As such *** would get a bloody fortune from every single Live arcade user if they released a standard simple arcade controller for a reasonable price.

The current PC Arcade sticks prices are FUCKING REDICULOUS when you consider what they cost to make it is simply a matter of the market being to small for low entry pricing levels. *** could release a controller that would work on PC and Xbox360 platform and everyone would buy it because we all want one! Thats good enough reason for them to make it!

Similar to the issues raised in Backwards Compatability is Control thereof of older games. If you don't have a suitable controller it ditracts from the game.

All hail the Battlestation 2 Master of Fighting games! :p
