Left Behind: Eternal Forces will put players in command of the apocalyptic battles raging in the streets of New York City between the angelic Tribulation Forces and the demonic Global Community Peacekeepers during the End of Days. Based on the Left Behind novels, here is a snip :

Violence is present in Eternal Forces but not gratuitous – more of a "Star Wars" style of conflict. There are guns and tanks and people die, but there is no blood or gore at all; people just collapse and then disappear. In some ways, the absence of violence truly can be more desensitizing than blatantly showing the reality of the consequences. "Star Wars" makes combat look cool, like going on an adventure, while "Saving Private Ryan" makes you never want to experience war firsthand and respect those who have survived it.Check the full Left Behind: Eternal Forces preview (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=34257) over at WorthPlaying.

I'd preorder a copy, but I'm pretty sure the rapture will happen between now and this game's release, so I figure I'll just walk down to the store and grab a free copy after the fact.

I have to say, this looks much better then I thought it would. It's still nothing to write home about, but they have a pretty good art director. Nice clean lines, simple, but not bad, which is much better then I expected.

I'm only going to pick this up if I can play as the Demonic side.

Religious extremism is cool now, didn't you know that, skribb?

It's ok to mass-kill atheists and people that don't worship Jayzuss Keerist, didn't you know that?

My God's will becomes me. When he speaks, he speaks through me. He has needs, like I do. We both want to rape you.

The only thing that might attract me to this game would its acquiring a mod team with a flair for social commentary.

Also: Kudos to CaptBob. There is no music. There is only TOOL.

You're not the target audience, if religious people want to buy the game who cares? It's funny how people act like this game will cause Christians to go around shooting people, while at the same time arguing "videogames don't cause violence".

Yes, quite an enlightened viewpoint! Sets quite a precedent! Let's indulge in every lowest common denominator wish fulfillment fantasy for every possible target group, as long as it's clear who the audience is.

For the athiests, how about sequel where you go around trying to convince christians that their religion is a lie and you're encouraged to shoot any of the retards who don't renounce their faith in favor of the cold hand of science? I mean, really, fuck them, they're not RATIONAL people after all.

For young males who don't know how to handle their testosterone or how to talk to women, how about a game where you go around raping any woman you want without any repercussions? It's just fantasy, and encouraging them to act out their fantasies of power rather than actually learning how to treat other people with respect can't be an unhealthy thing.

For the skinheads, how about a game where you round up all the jews in concentration camps and burn them to death? You could call it Left Behind 2: The Final Solution!

If you're not in the target audience of any of these games, why should you complain?

So who defines which lines of "good taste" cannot be crossed? You? As an atheist myself, I find your line of argument quite disturbing.

Yeah, I find religion silly, but people SHOULD have the right to be silly and believe on silly things, and even (gasp!) make games about silly beliefs, such as religion.

It is very easy to defend freedom of speech when the speech in question is one that you agree with. But the true test of a person's REAL commitment to freedom is when he is asked to defend the freedom of speech for a group that he does not like nor that he agrees with. And on that test my friend, you failed miserably.

Where are you getting this from? I'm just saying this is no different than a rape simulator or a holocaust simulator. I didn't say those things were BAD. On top of that, where do you get off trying to take me to task for expressing a sentiment that you do not agree with? Shouldn't you be defending my freedom of speech instead?

The world is full of Hypocrisy on all sides. Non-Religouse folks are just as asinine as Religious folks. No one is a special snowflake...perhaps if man kind ever grocks this we will evolve as a species.

That's gonna require a mass rethinking of the current puritanically dominated approach to drug regulation policy, for starters.

Yeah... cause easy access to dugs will help an already fucked up Human populace break free of their petty hatreds and intolerances. If however you are speaking what of medications that are available between the haves and have nots..then yeah I agree.

I'd rather see group A stop ranting about how fucked up groups B-Z are and start sweeping around their own back doors. Not All Christians are Uneducated idiots not all Muslims are Suicidal Terrorist, not all Buddhist are Tree Hugging pacifist, and not all Atheist are Intolerant assholes. It won't happen of course not in the next few millennia anyway

Actually, just to throw a skew on your statement...
The Biko series and Interact Play are exactly this in 3d animated hentai glory.

Just thought you'd like to know.

BTW, and I'm actually serious about the following question... please keep in mind I have no idea about the "Left Behind" series, nor am I trying to pass judgement but...
What exactly is so different about a video game "christian" killing an "athiest" than an "american" killing a "nazi" or an "assassin" killing a "mark", or one of a million other reasons we've come up to kill things in video games?

That *is* the drug problem: the rich and famous get whatever drugs they want without a hassle; and everybody else risks getting thrown into jail, killed, or living a miserably orthodox life.
