That's right, I'm straight up whoring out my own application in this post.

But this time it's probably okay! It's something that may or may not be useful for my fellow foolish 3DS day-one purchasers who didn't catch my initial blurb about this on Twitter and the Farmbook!

The Gist: those nifty 3DS AR cards made portable on your Android phone. Arguably the most enjoyable part of the 3DS is also the part most prone to being lost. Without the cards...YOU ARE NOTHING. So put the cards safely away someplace and use this on your phone or tablet.

The Good: It's only 42k! No ads!

The Bad: The cards have been specially tweaked to remove Nintendo's trademarks. That's right, no M4rio or L1nk on these babies. Reasoning was twofold: 1) the cards are highly compressible now (hence the size), and 2) Nintendo will have a hard time making a case that my app violates their property.

There's one other 3DS AR card (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andrewwilson.arcards) app on the market, but the Good and Bad are reversed. It's 663k, ad supported, and features all your lovable favorites that Nintendo will continue to run into the ground for decades to come. (And a couple other options.)

I have to admit, that ? AR card has been a considerable amount of fun since I got my 3DS. I love the AR games.

I was quite surprised by how well they'd implemented the idea. I've seen it before a bunch of times, of course, but they went the extra step to not only color-correct the models so they look more convincingly like they're in the 'real world', but they also deformed the area around the models with warping and making 'holes' in your table, or whatever. It's really great.

I'd love to get a t-shirt that has the [?] card on it so I can let other people see a dragon chest-bursting from my torso.

Shill!

Wait...no, that's right.
Okay, so maybe I'm just angry about not having a 3DS yet. Jerks.

I don't think that would work since the shirt would deform the symbol. Putting it on a large piece of cardboard or something though would prolly work.

There may be a margin of error where it would work okay... or, worst case, your victim could be forced to stand straight, and yank the bottom of the shirt so it's straight.

I'd be interested in giving this a shot. Wonder if there's any kind of iron on I could create to do a prototype?

Just paint it/tattoo it on your stomach. If you don't have a flat stomach, work out more - it's worth it to see a dragon flying out of it. :)

That's just the goal I needed to get motivated! :D **runs to the gym**

Pretty cool idea, hope you don't get sued ;) Also, Nintendo will find a way to foil this in future versions I'm sure.

Thanks. :) I'm sure I won't get sued, though. I would imagine Google would simply remove the app. I went out of my way to simplify the designs to minimize any infringing use of their IP, but I suppose that composition and shape of black/orange could be protected by them somehow... I'd be surprised if that was the case, but eeh. Not making money off it, at least.

Considering all the other far more blatant apps on the market, it should be okay. I mean, the nauseating glut of memory matching/sliding puzzle games based on Disney, Family Guy, Nintendo, Simpsons, etc. on the Market surely can't all be official... blagh.

The cards themselves aren't nearly as important as the program. They seem fine with the multitudes of people posting youtube videos of printouts of the cards and such to get mii's the size of people or statues.
