Today on Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=65545):
A report on website Games Radar (http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?articleId=20060614143623343060§ionId=1006) claimed that Sony was having trouble fitting all the PS3's components within the console case without risk of overheating. The article also suggested that the Cell processor could run at a lower speed than originally stated.
But Sony spokesperson Jonathan Fargher told Eurogamer: "The PS3 downgrade story is categorically not true.

Well they lost the 2 HDMI output & 3 Gigabit port. Still looks like a downgrade to me.

But that's not what the Games Radar article was about, or what Sony replied to.

Too bad he didn't just straight up say, "The CPU will be clocked at 3.2 gigahertz."

Not that I believe the Games Radar story at all, but what else is Sony going to say?
"Yes, the hardware is going to run slower, our bad."

This would have been a lot more fun if Ken had replied to Eurogamer instead O.o.

I kinda don't remember the "PS3 Downgrade Imminent" story being posted here?
Kamalot must have fallen asleep on duty.
Ahh it was originally from K*ta*u. Makes sense now.

Yeah...it was attempted to be posted numerous times...but with Games Radar AND Kotaku...it wasn't happening.

What's wrong with Kotaku? It's a games blog.

Any news about the PS3 is now complete bunk. This is what I was saying about the absolutely pathetic state of videogame journalism (especially EGM). All these hack writers do is report what they hear, whether its from a verifiable source or not. Its ridiculous, sad and sets journalism back about 20 years. EGM and PLAY have become so lame, they aren't worth reading anymore.
GET MAD PEOPLE! DEMAND GOOD JOURNALISM!

EvAv hates Kotaku because it is a corporate blog. It doesn't really bother me, though I don't read it anymore. At one time it really wasn't as bloated as the mods here seemed to believe, but today, it is.

What about the other times the specs were downgraded?

What about it?

What about it?
Its obvious. If the specs were downgraded once, then every rumor concerning the possibility of further degradation must be true!

Dear loyal and esteemed suckers:
We at Sony promise that we won't strip any more features or power from the upcoming Playstation 3. Over the past 13 months, we have been forced to deal with a harsh reality that the specs put forth to the press were nothing but a wild pipe dream. In the meantime, we have had to pull many features in order to bring you a mere shell, a husk of the PS3's hype for a reasonable price that won't make us bankrupt.
We realize that this may hurt some people's feelings and may cause you to look elsewhere for your game system. Before you do, please realize that the PS3 isn't a game system at all, but an upgradable PC. The product will have a life span of 10 years, growing more powerful by the light of every full moon.
Should you still not wish to partake in our Bluray revolution, you will soon be able to order the PS3 built-to-order with as much memory or hard drive space as you like. Even though we believe optical media will soon be obsolete, the Bluray drive will still be mandatory in your custom-built PC/Bluray/PS3.
We hope that this message helps clarify why the PS3 is the ultimate thingie you will need in your home in order to appreciate all of the soon-to-be-obsolete discs that Sony produces on an anual basis. Additionally, if you buy a PS3, we won't need to put root kits on your PC any more since the PS3 is fully root-kit compatiable straight from the box.
Be a happy drone,
Sony

This is awesome news for PS3 fans. I'm glad to see Sony coming out of the woodwork to quash nasty rumors about their product. I'd like it even more if they were pro-active with the press and the community, trying hard to convince us that their new system is worth the asking price.
Kudos to Sony!
