Here's something you won't see anywhere else: Team MeetYourMakers (http://www.meetyourmakers.com/article/83.html), a website dedicated to pro-gaming, has interviewed the female reigning champion of what is known as the WWE of Korea - professional league starcraft.
Traditional gender roles still exist in korea, does this make it hard for you to be a female progamer? And was this also the reason there were people starting anti-websites when you first started?
Female leagues are basically "gone" these days. Female leagues that are being held these days are more like a special event.
Honestly, since we are not as good as male gamers, audiences don't get the same satisfaction from watching us play as they do from the male leagues. Few female gamers play really well, but this is only a few. There are not enough female gamers to create good female leagues.
The difference between male and female gamers is that female gamers must improve by themselves, without the help of other gamers. This is because there is too much difference between them.

Spoken like a true sportsman - knows what it takes to reach the top and doesn't shy away from reality. I remember watching some of her earliest matches and boy, did she step up her game to stay in the league for as long as she has. The lifestyle of a top-tier pro-gamer in Korea is part brain-numbing training and part "by the teeth and claw" perseverance.
She's a fierce one.

Very interesting. I lived in Korea for several years (terrific experience overall) and the penetration rate (get your minds out of the gutter!) of high speed access to the net and to high tech consumer devices ranks near the top internationally. Some very hardcore gamers in Korea, too.

Duh. That's not the point. Hot girls are everywhere.
She's a rare one, knows how the league works and works hard at it.
@ Kelegacy: No. :) Have some class.

And jokes aside, that was a very interesting read.

I swear to god I spent the first 3 pages of the interview (not to mention the summary post here) reading that as "programmer" not "progamer". And over and over I kept thinking "what does programming have to do with professional StarCraft? Is programmer a weird translation of a Korean word for professional gamer?"
I think I need sleeeeeeep.

Ok, I'm not shallow, and the article is interesting... but she is really beautiful.

I'm with you man... I think it is supposed to be Pro-Gamer, or Pro Gamer... not progamer. We don't have profootball players.
Also, what is with that comment about male and female gamers being too different to practice with eachother? That isn't my experience. Then again, I'm not an obsessive Korean who is going to die starved to death in a LAN cafe.

I couldn't help but think that if this girl isn't as good looking, people would be slagging her off right now instead.

I've always theorized that once I find out a girl is a gamer, a beer goggled-esque filter goes over my eyes.

There is gonna be one lucky guy to meet her then find out she kicks ass in games, too.

Sportswoman! Or are you surprised that a woman can make it that far in a competitive field?
Oh damn this liberal arts education and it's "women's studies" classes!

its cause pro gamers spend so much time playing games that they are complete noobs when dealing with women hence why they cant play togheter.

To give perspective on the life of a female pro gamer in Korea.

LOL, I did the exact same thing.
It's interesting how modest she was throughout the interview, though I wonder if that's just her, or Korean culture in general.

I liked this article. It didn't have an us/them vibe to it or present her in an obnoxiously sexualized way. It was just a candid interview about a sweet girl who's trying her best. If the mainstream gaming media would expose more down-to-earth, hardcore, normal-looking girls like her on a regular basis to you knuckleheads (kidding) then we'd be a lot closer to the acceptance of the fact that women play games too and it's not a big deal.
I didn't understand why she said that female gamers can't improve with the help of other gamers? I guess if there are few female leagues and they're barred from the male leagues or something.

My interpretation is this: You can't get better without peers to both play against and to be critiqued by. If you're in a team you might say "hey, how'd you do that" or "what do you think I should do next time." Add to that the rivalry amongst friends. She is on a team with what appears to be only men, and apparently she can't talk to them before they talk to her for fear of seeming out of line. (cultural for sure) Her teammates probably help each other all day, but from the sound of it beat her most of the time. The guys don't want here there, don't want her on their team, and don't help her get better.
That's my interpretation of what she said.

When the original codec/rmvb designers came up with the standard and compression scheme, they made sure to include an assembler-optimized soul-destroying routine that initiates an endless for loop incrementing your credits to send you to hell.
Nobody wants to go to hell, therefore nobody likes real media. Hate away, my son.

If I ever make an online game, I'll make sure it uses the letters "C" and "S" as acronyms cause it sure look like even though they are very old games, CS and SC seem to still be kicking butts! :)

What? How can you have a twin sister who's older? If you're twins, shouldn't you be the same age?
Still trying to figure out where I should click for the interview...

That is probably accurate, I imagine the cultural differences might make her comments more easy to interpret, as I was wondering exactly what she meant.
On another point: let's just dump the whole sportsman/sportswoman: GAMERS, anyone can be a gamer. The question is whether or not gamer means: a person who enjoys games or teenage retard, is another question.

One twin has to come out before the other. That's the older twin. Twins can be minutes or in some cases hours apart.
