Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/12/take-two-pledges-support-for-wii/) reports:
According to Take-Two president and CEO Paul Eibeler, the publisher was impressed with Nintendo's E3 showing and is now committed to producing a range of titles for Wii beginning in late 2007.
Yet another third-party praises Nintendo and the Wii. It looks like the worst thing about the last two Nintendo generations may finally be fixed.

Who wasn't impressed? Besides Evil Avatar himself.

Wasn't it yesterday that Take Two's projected release dates for their first Wii titles was being presented as game over nintendo by you know who? :p

Man, I sure remember being impressed with that there Dreamcast when I saw it in stores.
Third party problems won't be over for Nintendo until the games release, sell and see subsequent and continous support.

The first GTA game will be coming out on the PS3 and 360 a year after the PS3's launch. The same goes for FFXIII (and that is only a maybe).
Good games take time to make.

Good games take time to make.At least those games are announced. This is just a nebulous statement.

And another statement that says "late 2007." Sounds to me like these developers initially didn't buy in, but once everyone else (read: folk across the internet) got caught in the hype they changed their tune.

I hated GameCube, although I will say that it had it's fair share of awesome titles (Resident Evil 4 stands out sharply along with the standard Metroid/Mario/Smash Bros./Zelda group) but the Wii looks VERY promising for party games and new approaches to old games. Hopefully Wii delivers a lot more on it's product's uniqueness than the DS has with it's touch screen function.

If developers are just getting in on the Wii now, I'm afraid that there's going to be a big drought of good Wii games next year.

Yeah, when I see this I see "late 2007", which isn't terribly inspiring. Also, didn't Capcom promise the "Capcom 5" for the GC and then under deliver? All I'm saying is that a publisher saying that they might have some games, though no specific games named, out over a year after launch isn't exactly proof to me that all is well.

"If a developer". This has not been reported as widespread.

Hmm. The Capcom 5 (let's see if I remember this correctly) in roughly chronological release order was P.N.03, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4 and Killer 7. The 5th game (Dragon something) was cancelled. Out of the released 4, only PN03 was Gamecube exclusive. The others were eventually ported, or in the case of Killer 7 available on another platform at release time.
But this is somewhat of a different situation. At the time, the PS2 was dominating, and Capcom understandably decided to port to sell more copies. I don't think they had an iron-clad agreement with Nintendo to make all 5 GC exclusive, just some initial PR announcements (and we all know how well those stick). This time around, perhaps there won't be one console that's so completely dominating, at least in the US. It doesn't exactly seem that way right now. Here's hoping 3rd party Nintendo support is more motivated this time around.

Quite right Danho, I was just trying to get at the idea that publishers talk about supporting a machine all the time and don't always live up to those promises. What's even more important to me is that they don't expect their games to be ready until late 2007, which could easily mean there will be games slipping until early to mid 2008.
I don't have any animus to the Wii and if it gets that critical mass of games that I need to play I'm sure I'll pick one up, but right now I'm just a little skeptical is all, after my less than enthusiastic experience with the Cube.
Edit: And if you aren't terribly annoyed, I'm going to continue to drop an "o" from your name because it gives me untold pleasure to say, "Book 'em Danho" in my head every time I miss-type your name.

GTA on Wii. If we could get to actually "swing" the bat at hookers heads, and if the speaker in the wii-mote would actually sob with terror as we bludgeon the women till they are a bloody shuddering pulp, then I would be happy. That's really the game I want. And that's the game that I will buy for all my nieces! Video games are great! Mainstream, here we come!
I think it's safe to say it'll have relatively less 3rd party support at launch, with the 360 being out much earlier and the PS3 being, well, another PS. It was also a far less bankable system until recently, but it seems that Nintendo's first party games may carry us through the lean post-launch months (at least that didn't seem to suffer in the last two generations).

"Late 2007" gives Take Two time to see if Wii will be a commercial success. I'm willing to bet a lot of developers are taking the wait and see approach.
Well, I wouldn't say that, if they're doing something for 2007 then they'll need to be working on it right away.

Feel free. However, "Danho" (and this thread's Take-two influence) just makes me think I need to head out and work the streets in the red light district or something. :)
