FiringSquad has a Q&A today with Funcom's Jørgen Tharaldsen to find out more about their upcoming MMORPG title Age of Conan. You can check out the interview right here (http://www.firingsquad.com/games/age_of_conan_interview/). Here is a snip:
FiringSquad: Why did you want to create a game based on a licensed property, rather than your own creation?

Jørgen Tharaldsen: When we were developing the heralded Anarchy Online – Shadowlands in 2003 we started to look at other games we could develop in the genre. We really wanted to create a fantasy game this time around (since AO was a sci-fi game) and when we went through our options we (“almost” by chance) came across Conan Inc, who was looking for a partner to develop an online universe based on the Conan license. Having grown up with the Conan comic and movies, and being great fans of the universe, the choice wasn’t all that difficult, and here we are some three years later.
This could be the first licensed MMORPG title to be any good (memories of Star Wars Galaxies and The Matrix Online, anyone?)

I am very much looking forward to trying this out for myself. I loves me some Conan.

Drunken brawling is a hilarious, unique and very “Conanesque” PvP form where every player, regardless of their level, can fight it out in the bars and taverns of the world. Your fighting ability here depends on how much you drink, and what you drinkJ The more you drink the more pain you are able to endure, but the less chance you have of hitting! So it gives the word binge drinking a whole new meaning, and it’s quite unlike any PvP action you have seen before ;)

I am so there for that kind of PVP.

I'm getting this game now, simply for the drinking.

is it only me that thought Star Wars Galaxies was really great before the recently released modifications? the roleplay and maturity added alot ofcourse but never the less, it was for a verry long time the best MMORPG out. (my thinking) This was until Wow came and SWG tried to copy some of it's features...

SWG was pure ass. The idea was great but the game wasn't fun.

They should have had that kind of bar fights in D&D Online, since most of the time was spent sitting around in bars.

I wonder if "The most advanced character creation system ever seen in a MMO" is going to go head to head with Hero's Journey and its "30 controls to specify your nose shape"

Is it going to be character creation that makes a difference, or just really detailed ala CoV?

I dont' really care, since im a conan fanboy, and Id pretty much buy this even if it didn't look awsome, which it does. But im curious.

I don't think you're the only one, but the "re-envisioning" of SWG wouldn't have happened if enough people shared your love of this game to make it profitable for SOE.

This is one of the three MMOs I'm really looking forward to - along with gods & heroes and Warhammer. Hopefully at least one of the three won't disappoint :)

I'm extremely excited about this title from having seen it at E3. Other good MMOs to look for are Gods & Heroes and Tabula Rasa. :)
