Reviews have not been positive but the concept is fairly sound; a mobile phone that contains a separate bootable OS that can be swapped in and out of at will by plugging the device into various docks. Although right now the performance is said to be somewhere around dismal it would seem that the major issues are software only.

Motorola are saying that this is going to be the way all their upcoming high-end cellphones work, and six or seven years ago I could see myself being very excited about a continuous client that followed me around, but my dislike of the idea of internet based services back then was mostly down to my lack of insight or understanding and now having one device to do all my data related things with seems more scary than smart.

There is perhaps something to be said of having such a device with associated (and one day cheap) docks that also keeps its services "in the cloud" where they are theoretically safer and more powerful as we do so much more inside web browsers now that our cellphones become almost nothing more than portable clients for those servers and so a large part of what we keep local and personal is simply customisation, the layout of icons and widgets etc.

Anyone out there into the Motorola vision of the mobile future? I am curious but Motorola have annoyed me enough so far (Euro firmware is not good) that I am not spending money with them again. If this venture does well however we can be sure there will be other manufacturers building similar systems in the near future.
