Gamespot is reporting (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2006/06/09/news_6152588.html?part=rss&tag=gs_&subj=6152588) that publisher Take-Two is planning to bring some of their sports franchise titles to Nintendo's Wii console system in "late 2007 or 2008", starting with MLB 2K.
Late 2007 or 2008? Sounds like third-party Wii support will get off to a slow start.

EA will have the sports covered on all major systems. They have the high sales and name. Wii has them at or around launch, which is the most important

yes, because one company not making the launch date means that all third-parties will be late too!
That slow start could have as much to do with Take-Two's (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2005/06/take-two-settles-sec-lawsuit.html) own (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2005/08/take-two.html) financial (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2006/01/take-two-results.html) difficulties (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2006/06/take-two-earnings-somebody-please-buy.html) as anything else.

Why should TT care about sport games on Wii anyway?
They will flood it with Disney and Spongebob Square Pants first.

Think you're jumping the shark a bit on this one, Evil. It's one developer with one franchise.

Ya I am not worried at all about the Wii and 3rd party support , the Wii is going to own and along with my 360 I am good to go till the PS3 has an army of games and is priced reasonably. I assume that won't be till mid 2008 at the earliest.

It's better than nothing, as-in the Gamecube.

I think if all 3rd party devs were on a similar schedule it would be just as bad as the Gamecube.

No, but it will help push it along either way.

Well, since we already know they're not, it's pretty much a moot point, huh? Unless Ubisoft has pushed back their launch games, along with EA, Activision, et cetera...

Indeed, I agree. Let's just hope it stays that way through the Wii's whole lifespan.

My Gamecube works just fine. Has tons of great games too.
I think we are going to hear a bunch of 3rd party announcements that will appear to be "a little late." What you are witnessing is most companies writing off the console at first. Then, after E3 and all the positive buzz, they realized that hey are going to miss out on a pretty big phenomonon if they don't have some software to put out for Wii. I remember reading an analysts report that most 3rd party developers were not in a position to benefit if Nintendo was able to pull of something positive with their new console. Most 3rd parties will come late to the table.

How is the GC broke? It finished barely behind the Xbox worldwide and Nintendo made a shitload of money. If Nintendo were losing money, then I'd agree, but they're not.
I think the DS proved a point for them. Wii might not do as well as the GC, or it might do better. Either way it doesn't really matter since they'll be making money on the hardware.

If the Wii has as much support as the Cube had, I'll be happy. You don't need 50 games per month for your system. About 10% of all of Gamecube's third party titles were fucking fantastic. That's a good ratio. On PS2, it's about 3%.
And of course, PS2 doesn't really have quality first party titles, outside of Shadow of the Colossus, I believe. Was that even Sony?

Well that about fills the quota for "idiotic statements of the day"
Evil's been on fire recently.
Keep digging hard for that promotion, big fella!

Overreact much? Yeesh. It's not like he said "Man, Wii's gonna fail hardcore because of their lack of third-party support!"

Possible, maybe even likely, but Switcher was still blowing it out of proportion. I dunno, lately Evil's been posting some pretty positive Nintendo stories.

Evil's been doing this long enough to know what buttons to push. And of course there's positive news, don't want an uprising, just enough to get things riled up.

I've gotta say, I'll welcome it. Wii is the only console thus far that has made me genuinely interested in sports games (beyond Mario Tennis, that is). I am really looking forward to Wii Sports and Madden as well. Bring it on Take 2!

Sure was. SCEI, one of Sony's internal development teams, made it under the close watch of Fumito Ueda. I like the guy, and whatever he does on the PS3 will probably be one of my reasons for breaking down and getting one... as soon as they're priced for households.
And I'll agree that for the most part, Sony doesn't have very many AAA first-party titles, but you can't discount stuff like God of War or ICO. Sony's not as reliable as Nintendo when it comes to first-party titles, but there are some gems.

That's not the point. Whether or not you like them, they are still high quality 1st party games from Sony.

Exactly. I was going to say the same thing.
I don't love every first-party Nintendo title, but I can acknowledge a quality game even if I don't enjoy playing it.
That's pretty much been my relationship with the Metal Gear Solid series.

QFT. This is one publisher that puts out 3/4 sports games. The Wii has good 3rd party support and will not be wanting in that regard.

Well, God of War I can admit thats true. But ICO is fucking trash. That's not art. Plenty of games have castles and fancy lighting in them, but most of those games have more to the gameplay then just moving the analog stick and swinging a twig. It's retarded.
