Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/09/in-nintendo-monopoly-mario-is-boardwalk/) reports:

Courtesy of Rich Uncle Pennybags and the good folks at USAopoly comes Monopoly: Nintendo Collector's Edition. Yup, we're talking about an actual physical copy of Monopoly, not a video game version. The promotional shots they sent us don't show off the board very well (although we can tell that Mario is Boardwalk, natch), but they do show off all the little pewter figurines. They are: Mario's hat, Koopa shell, NES controller, Donkey Kong barrel, Link's boots (of the iron variety we assume), and Link's shield (of the Hylian variety).
(Pictures of awesome available through the link!)

I'm the friggin NES controller!

Wow, I want. Best weekend news ever!

Yeah, heard about it a bit ago... I totally want this. Not that I know anyone who plays Monopoly sadly, but still. Best Monopoly special edition since Pokemon Monopoly. (or Star Wars, as many are sure to say.) Interesting that Zelda can apparently be bought for $300... I wonder how much Peach goes for? I would have thought they'd use places, instead of characters.

Anyway, I call the shield!

So... do you build hotels on Zelda? I am confused.

Also, Zelda is an expensive hooker.

I'm Link's shield!

How lame they didn't have a single Samus icon. Morphball, anyway? Ah well ... I'm sure we'll see that in the next "Super Smash Bros." edition.

It'd be great if the damn things weren't characters. I could of put hotels in Hyrule, someone missed the boat here.

Why do i think instead of hotels and houses, i think mushrooms and 1 ups? (you alreadly have the green/red parallels.....)

I get the Koopa Shell!

But yeah. Anyone who knows Nintendo well enough to buy a Monopoly game based on them would perfectly 'get' worlds based on Nintendo locations.

A Samus Morph-Ball would be a pretty sweet figurine.

Nuts. I wanted that! I hope there is a Luigi hat. :)

Well this comes as no suprise to me. I actually think it could have come out sooner. Monopoly has done every theme i can think of. I wonder what they will do next.

Dibs on turtle shell!

It kinda sucks that the greatest Nintendo character has the cheapest place on the board. I am, of course, talking about Waluigi.

Nice crossover product.

Though I can't look at myself in the mirror for buying a game I'll never play, except on the one off time when someone asks if I had a board game, years from now, and all I could show for it is a Nintendo branded version of monopoly.

I see your Samus Morph Ball, and raise you a Chozo Statue!

Really cool idea, terrible execution. I want to love this, but it's just not happening.

Agreed. After seeing some of the other theme Monopolys (Monoplies?), I gotta say that this is pretty uninspired. Just characters? So lame ... so much potential wasted.

If my shop doesn't sell these in the next 3 months, I'll burn it to the ground.

Family Guy edition? Me wants...

I always thought they'd do one with places, but the fact is, only us Nintendo fans would recognize SR388 or Saharasland, but everyone on the planet recognizes Link and Bowser.

Did anyone get the Nintendo UNO? That's a great tie-in.

Odd that the figureines aren't of actual Nintendo characters instead of dorky stuff like "Link's Boots". You would think they would just go with Mario, Wario, Etc.

Some of them have obvious connections to the original pieces - Mario's hat instead of the Top Hat, Link's boots instead of the Old Boot...

But they didn't really stick with that throughout. Surely they could have got a MarioKart to replace the car, etcetera...

Man, this looks fantastic. Too bad my wife and I go cut-throat after ten minutes of play and won't talk to one another for the whole rest of the night. The woman buys everything and won't trade. She won't trade. WTF is that.

People that won't trade are the bane of my existance.

You know what they *REALLY* need? Nintendo-themed Risk. Or even just a Legend of Zelda-themed Risk would give me a boner, methinks.

*thinks back on long weekends of drunken Risk with college roommates*

"Another Parker Brothers tragedy. How do they sleep at night?" I too love the game, but it does bring forth more hostility than a FPS marathon. And not trading... that's just awful.

Has anyone made a themed Risk set yet? I love Risk, and suddenly feel an overwhelming desire to pay money for another version.

Yeah, I'm not so good at this savings thing.

They've made a few. There's "Risk 2210 A.D." (actually made by Wizards of the Coast) where you're trying not only to conquer Earth, but underwater cities and moon colonies. There's also a Lord Of The Rings version, where you're of course fighting for Middle Earth. And then there's a weird version similar to the LOTR version that's called "Risk: Godstorm" that takes place in medieval times - that one looks hella interesting. I'm also fairly sure that, like every other board game, there's a Star Wars version.

You can find most of those on Amazon pretty easily.

They also have a Star Wars Risk, if I'm not mistaken. Could be thinking of the Star Wars Stratego I have, though.
