So you own a PSP or Go. You've bought some really rad (and expensive) content from the Playstation Network for it. You plan on being an early adopter of the new Playstation Phone (aka, Xperia Play). And you expect to be able to transfer your Playstation Network content over to it, right?

RIGHT?

Wrong.

"[Xperia Play owners] will have to repurchase the games, so it's not totally integrated," admitted Vautier, when asked about the ability to transfer purchases. "I think the exciting thing is that there are games which people are very, very aware of," he continued.

Yes, there is nothing more exciting than being aware of games. Except maybe having to repurchase all of those games again for your new device.

Ah Sony, always thinking of the consumer (and how they can get deeper into their pockets)...

This is something I hadn't even considered. I mean that to say that I always assumed Sony was pulling a Nintendo on this one.

The surprising thing here is that anyone thinks this is surprising.

It's like "Inception" for surprise :P So, the real question is, should WE be surprised that someone found the surprise of rebuying surprising :P

Exactly what I was saying! Sony isn't selling you new hardware so you can play all of your old games for free. It's the highly profitable Nintendo business model, where you sell new hardware and resell old software.

The difference is Nintendo re-releases for the most part are a good and still fun. (except for that copy/paste Mario Anniversary game for the wii)
