One of the games that seems to be under the radar that is upcoming for Live Arcade is a title called Small Arms (http://www.smallarmsgame.com/). The game is a Smash Bros style clone. While the game just won't be the same without having actual classic characters we care about, it does look pretty good. If the game costs $10 or less it could be a worthwhile purchase.
Check out this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD7V8vL-kQU) off the game in action.

I can't friggin wait... Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
EDIT: Wait... on their website, they say they have another XBLA game that is already available. It is called Fuzzee Fever, and yet I see it no where on the marketplace.
EDIT2: I figured it out. Fuzzee Fever was a game for the original XBLA on the original XBOX. But Small Arms will be for the 360, according to their site.

The more I see XBLA, the more I want an Xbox 360. I'm assuming that this game also has online play?

Heard that it would be out Summer 2006, so either in July, or August.

Oh wow. Fantastic. Yet another great-looking Xbox Live Arcade game to look forward to. That's one of the things I love most about Live Arcade -- crazy stuff like this coming completely out of left field.

If you spam refresh the Small Arms site, you can get a look at four of the characters available.

I could care less about kicking cute kirby's ass or dropping little bombs as Link. The gameplay makes these types of games fun, and this one looks fast, pretty, and very fun. I'm sold.
Now the big question, any word on Worms for XBL?

I just wish they would release more XBLA arcade games. I hear tons of games being announced and nothing really showing up. and UNO does not count ;)

The bigger question, is what is the release plan for these? Most of them look polished and ready to go. And we're all dying to get them..
Is MS just waiting to release a bunch at once, or what?

I hope they don't release them all at once. If they do, I won't have time to play them all at once.
Plus people are jaded (at least on the net and forums) and if they're all released at once "somebody" is going to bitch about the glut of XBLA games and the "drought of real games", then somebody else (maybe the same person) will bitch about the "drought of XBLA games", when they slow down again.
And yes, UNO DOES COUNT. Sales and the # of people playing, say so... :p

Reminds me more of Power Stone than SSB, but to each his own I guess. My main complaint with SSB is I had to get four people over to my house to enjoy it, same with Power Stone. It will be cool to play people online with this kind of game, provided it doesn't lag to all hell.

this game is a no-brainer, just like UNO was
anyone crying about how 360 has no killer app needs to have his head examined

It is actually more like a combination of Metal Slug and SSB. As far as I can tell, you don't actually hit other characters, you shoot at them using the right analog stick (like in Geometry Wars). So SSB platforming/multiplayer, with Metal Slug style combat.

Oh really? Do tell. I love Xbox Live Arcade, and I'm glad I have my 360, but I don't think any of these games come close to killer apps.

Kameo, Oblivion, GRAW, DoA4...
Those are A+ games, and a good represenation of gaming's four most popular genres. Add to that the large number of puzzle games on XBLA, and there is something for everybody except for those who like JRPG's.

Kameo, Oblivion, GRAW, DoA4...
Already stated in a previous thread, that for something to be 'killer app', for me, means it needs to be for that platform alone, so that outs Oblivion and GRAW (though GRAW's obviously the best version of that). As for Kameo, that's HIGHLY debatable. It's far from a well-accepted critical success. Many people hated it, both fans and critics, and me. DOA4 is arguable as well.
There's nothing for JRPG or platformer fans, really. Even if you liked Kameo, that's not much.
