GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com) is reporting that NBA Live 07 will be available from day one on PS3.
You can read the full article here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2006/06/07/news_6152477.html?part=rss&tag=gs_&subj=6152477).
In a seemingly innocuous press release from Electronic Arts today, the company announced some great news for b-ballin' PlayStation 3 fans. Touting an NBA Finals simulation on NBA Live, the publisher snuck in the fact that NBA Live 07 will be a launch title for Sony's next-gen system.
"NBA Live 07 will be available this fall on the Xbox 360 and Xbox video game systems, the PlayStation 2, PSP handheld system, and PC. It will also be one of the EA Sports titles available at launch of the PS3 entertainment system," says the statement.
The phrase "one of the EA Sports titles" indicates that the publisher is readying more sports games for the PS3 launch, which isn't surprising as it helped the Xbox 360 launch with four EA Sports games--Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Madden NFL 06, FIFA 06: Road to the FIFA World Cup, and NBA Live 06. There's no word on what other EA games will be ready for the PS3's launch, though a version of Fight Night was demonstrated at Sony's E3 conference in 2005.
Lookie here, some positive PS3 news (assuming you're a fan of NBA Live, that is).

It will just be an updated port.

I'm so disappointed the sports titles, like Madden, 2K7, NBA Live, seem to all support the last Gen consoles. Totally selfish, I know..., but until they are Next Gen only, they'll be more "port" and less Next Gen. :(
The stuff EA showed at the Sony press conference was excellent and gives me hope, but my guess is we'll have to wait until 2008 for Next Gen only versions. Actually, depending on how well they sell on the PS2 & Xbox this year, they might not be Next Gen in 2008 either. Hope not.
2K6 was the dominant title last year or NBA Live. I'd expect, it will also be a launch title for the PS3. Madden too.
The Madden '06 and 2k7 got OK reviews on the 360 at E3, but you could tell they weren't really Next Gen, just more spit and polish with better graphics.... :( Maybe NBA Live will be different.

EA makes sports games now?

This is surprising since EA's games only accounted for like 75% of the PSP launch titles, and I'm even more surprised that EA still wants to assure they bring in piles of cash by putting their games on a console which will easily sell to the vast hordes of Sony fans.
I would also like to extend my congratulations to Captain Obvious for securing a job at GameSpot. Kudos!

This is not a PS2 port... this is a X360 port! Prepare for higher prices, better graphics where the flaws stand out more, and lacking features compared to the older versions! The future says Hello!

Not really surprising, is it? Doesn't EA's launch windows sort of match with PS3 (KAK holidays)?

Well, its a start as to what will be launching with the system. But, I will say that Electronic Arts sports games are no-brainers, I don't care what the system is.

I wonder if it will be like Madden and look like shit compared to the 360 version. At least that's how it was at E3, from what I've read. PS3 Madden was embarrassing.

The latest Game Informer just announced that NBA 2k7 is built specifically for the next-gen systems, and that it will be ported down to the last-gen consoles.
I want my next-gen NHL 07, and I don't care what people think of it.

However, the 360 version runs about 6,000 FPS faster. =P
The sports titles will be launch titles, just like they were for 360 last year, this isn't a surprise. I was satisfied with 2k6 for the 360, I had hoped they'd make a bigger leap with 2k7, but they're probably waiting for another year w/ the ps3 to do it. we'll prolly have to wait till 08 for EA and 2K to toally change things up. nba live's gameplay sucked, so unless they fix that, nothing else matters.

Eh, it's all about exclusives... why buy a PS3 to play Xbox 360 ports? Give me Resistance and Motorostorm over this anyday.

I'm looking forward to NFL Roster Update '07, though.
...Okay, I'll stop with the snide comments, it is good to see some positive PS3 news. Really looking forward to seeing what they're going to release as exclusives.

why is this an 'announcement'.....?
why WOULDN'T it come out on the ps3?.....
Its nothing 'new' to me, new iterations of EA sports games have been multiplatform for generations.

So... for $660 I can play NBA 2k7 on PS3?
I can pay $460 and play the exact same (if not better) game on the 360!

It's NBA Live, which is miles inferior to the 2K series.

Have people not got over the price thing yet? Come up with something original to say.

In which case:
Although we all saw the EA Sports titles heading for PS3 before we'd even tried to at least this starts the ball rolling for confirmations. Beyond that I guess you can only hope that a bit of change in hardware terms can bring a bit of change along in development strategy and those making the titles will take on constructive criticism levied by the sports gaming community.
Personally I don't tend to enjoy EA's sports titles much further past the Street titles. The arcade styles sit better with somebody who isn't necessarily that interested in the game at the centre of the...game.

Much better! :D
The only EA Sports game I buy is FIFA Soccer and that's mostly down to the FIFA games having all the relevant licenses. NBA Live, Madden, NHL Live, etc. are all poor compared to the 2K Sports equivalents.

IndependentGMR,
Hmmm, I'm a big 2k basketball fan, but from what I've seen on the video's, it doesn't "look" that Next Gen yet. I've heard about the Nash licking his fingers type touches.
Sounds good, just hope they make the animations much smoother/better quality and fix some of the little things like 3's and dunks dominated games. The mid-range jumper was way too hard. Not enough of a penalty to swipe at the ball non-stop. All in all though 2k6 gets better every year.
Maybe the "next gen" is all in the AI. If so, then I'm thrilled. I'll be waiting patiently. I'd switch to NBA Live if it had the realism/gameplay of the 2k series.

Well, I think the reason why it's considered good news for Sony is that if people *need* to play EA sports games, that won't be a reason *not* to buy a PS3.
