Perpetual Entertainment announced (http://community.godsandheroes.com/2006/06/get_registered_for_beta.html#more) their beta sign-up today.
As we get started with our beta program there will be numerous opportunities for you to become involved with Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising. Throughout the many stages of open and closed beta, we will have a limited number of slots available to bring people into the game, and several stages will be filled with randomly selected PEP account holders?
For those not familiar with Gods & Heroes (http://www.godsandheroes.com), it is an upcoming MMORPG that allows players not only to play their immortal son or daughter of a god, but to take control of minions in order to create large Romanesque battles. The game's setting pulls both from Roman history and mythology, and the lead developer, Stieg Hedlund, is famous for his work at Blizzard North (Diablo, Diablo II, and Starcraft). Additionally, Gods & Heroes was the most decorated MMORPG of E3 2006 (http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/79264) as it won more Best of Show awards in the MMO category than any other title including the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.
If you enjoy MMORPGs, you should definitely check this out. Stieg Hedlund is an industry icon up there with Miyamoto, Sakuguchi, Will Wright, and Sid Meier in my book, and the animations in this game (I saw it at E3) were amazing.

Was almost interested until I found out Sony is a co-publisher of this.
It almost seems like they've given up on EQ2 with the newest MMOs they have coming out. Now the strategy is to publish a game from somebody that used to work at Blizz in hopes of stealing some of the billions of people from WoW? Or will this just further dilute the install base for their current MMOs..

Sony has nothing to do with the product. They are only handling marketing, PR, and packaging. They do not own Gods & Heroes, they have no part in its development, and above all, they have no say one way or the other over anything in the game. Perpetual is doing its own billing, customer service, and has an entire team of in-house GMs and CSRs.

I only hope that this game becomes a success. Blizzard has lately become a little too big for their britches, and I hope that this game gives them a run for their money.
Things can only feel better when there is competition around.

Sony Platform Publishing is basically being contracted to print the CDs, boxes, and handle distribution of the physical product to brick & mortar stores.
Perpetual Entertainment is new, and that stuff takes a lot of time and money, though I agree that they should have used someone else without such horrible brand recognition. Still, PE has their own customer service, billing service, and game servers. Plus, they completely 100% own the project and thus have complete creative control.
I'm okay with this because after I get the game off of a store shelf, I'll NEVER have anything else to do with Sony. It will NOT be a Station game and you'll never ever go to a Sony site.
Sigil's Vanguard on the other hand. . . well, they are in bed with SOE (NOT Sony Platform Publishing), and in addition to having a poor E3 showing, well SOE has definitely scared me away for good.

I hope that it is good because I like to play good games. :)
Also, I really think that someone who does an accessible endgame instead of the bullshit uber guild raid endgame that Kaplan is all about in WoW will do quite well.

I would definitely like to see some worthwhile competition in the MMO market to keep pushing Blizzard so they maybe stop taking so much for granted.
Glad to hear SOE isn't involved in the game at all, but I think there are a lot of jaded MMO players with bad Sony history that may not see that.
I just want there to be at least 1 solid MMO out there to give WoW a run for its money so that hopefully both games will benefit as long as they are fighting over customers. I did sign up for the beta and hope to be pleasantly surprised by this title :)

I'd Love to sign up for the beta, Mythic Rome has always been a compelling setting just waiting for someone to come along and take advantage of it but I cannot find a single link to Beta Signups on the website. Anyone have one?
