Sword of the Stars is an upcoming 4x space strategy game that intrigues many fans of the genre. During this year's E3 we decided to check it out, and we are now very excited! Martin Cirulis of Kerberos Productions spent two hours talking to us about the game before giving us a demonstration, and the first part of our interview can now be found in our E3 2006 Section (http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/e32006sots1).

SC: Why will SOTS be the best 4x to date?
(Laughter) It will be the most novel to date. That's really our aim; our aim isn't to replace the entire genre because that's for people to decide. It's not for us to decide. But we want to break away from the way things have always been. We've noticed in the past 5 or 6 years that things have just...

This looks pretty awesome. Hopefully it'll be enough to pull me away from GalCiv 2 and Civ 4.

One of my friends is working on this game - I love having an 'insider,' heh.

This is probably my most anticipated game. It combines the best of delicious 4xness with GASP! tactical combat. Mommy, hold me...

Just noticed that the story was written by the chick who did Arcanum's. Sweet! I loved that game to death.

I've had a couple different sit-downs with this game, and it slays.

This looks good. I love games like this.
That reminds me. What was that other game called that was like this but also had fps play and interaction on each ship and planet. It was like eve online with fps elements.
It was called Park or Perkins or something.

Your thinking of battlecruiser 3000

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Sorry, I had to do it! Man (he says wiping the tears from his eyes) I haven't thought of that game in a good long time.

Are there ANY games like Freelancer? I am still hooked on that game. It had the perfect blend of shooting, exploration, and buying stuff. I don't want any strategy in my outer space.

castewar keeps telling me they're going to get me into play it. I can't wait. I wasn't a big fan of 4x games until recently, now I'm loving them.

This will be interesting to see if it does anything to the 4X games like they want it to. Hopefully we can get a copy early and review it for everyone. As long as it is fun, then that is all that matters.

The game is done. Lighthouse is looking at a August or September release however (due to testing or slow summer sales most likely).

looks a bit like homeworld/+ (one of the most personally enjoyable series ever). this sounds good so far, has me curious at least.

Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to make it a little larger :). I'll mention if for the webmaster.

@drakkarim: Not a coincidence (http://www.kerberos-productions.com/profile.shtml) that it looks a little Homeworldish :)

Try Escape Velocity Nova, Space Rangers 2 (Strategy is optional), or Space Empires: Starfury.
