If the reports are true and the military is siding with the people, Mubarak's days are numbered.
Hopefully this revolution will lead to the people actually getting to set up a democratic government rather than some extremist dictator who will crush them even harder.

Some give credit to Wikileaks revelations for incensing the Egyptians. Some say the uprising is US backed.

The middle-east actually did have a lot of democracies in the late 1800's, it's just that's when islamic fundamentalism came to the fore, mixed with elements of communism, and it all went south into dictatorship and oppression.

Islam is still smarting over the loss of their empire, the Ottoman's, just as Spain, France, the Dutch, England, and finally Russia still smart over the loss of their empires and former glory. Pride gets in the way.
